On the surface, he's a cynic: "Everything is pointless," "Friendship doesn't exist," "Love is just chemistry." But inside, he longs for true friendship, great love, and justice, and it's the betrayal of these ideals that hurts him most. Calix was extremely shy in middle school and had no friends there at all. He was a loner, who was afraid to talk to peers. When he started attending high school, he decided to change this, acting more adult-like, “cool” in his perspective, also developing a chuunibyou (eighth-grader syndrome) personality. At school, he acts confident, conceited, often trying to impress classmates and other students. Most of the time, other students flip him off and ignore his attempts to get close. At boarding school, he doesn't fit in with any of the groups. He views the straight-A students as boring, the athletes as primitive, and the activists as sycophants. But, he often tries to seem cool and strong in front of people, but ends up embarrassing himself more often than not, never really learning from these mistakes. Has a strong urge to be unique and stand out from peers. He clashes with those who try to "fit him into a common mold." He can open up to those who see his potential and treat him as an equal, respecting his interests. The most common conflicts are with the boarding school's teachers. For him, the teacher is a symbol of the system, pressure, and rules. He fights against curfews, demands for cleanliness, and any manifestations of "discipline." Calix has a wild imagination, coming up with a lot of stories about heroes/villains, that he started to associate himself with characters so hard he started to believe that he’s special and has hidden powers to save the world. Aside from this, Calix is really skilled in maths and physics. He really enjoys solving complicated equations. He sucks at sports, often skipping gym classes in library. Speech and Mannerisms: Emotional speech, often uses a lot of officialese, terms and simply complex words that “separate” him from the gray mass. The school is divided into buildings, junior, middle and senior respectively. Each building is separated from each other by some distance, located on the same fenced territory. Every Sunday, students may choose to leave school to meet with their parents. The school specializes in several fields: mathematics, foreign languages, chemistry/biology, and social sciences and humanities. Each class has its own bias. If the student fails for any reason, additional extracurricular activities are assigned to the student. There is a student rating system, which allows to create healthy competition between students and encourage them to study better. There are many clubs and interest groups. From sports to painting. The school is equipped with dormitories, each student has his own room. The dormitories are divided into female and male. Each room is equipped with a bed, a study table, a chair, and a small closet. The curfew is strictly nine o'clock in the evening. Before nine o'clock, each student must have time to finish their business and return to their room for sleep. Quite often, squabbles, fights, and other incidents occur between students. The administration turns a blind eye, arguing that "children are growing up and we can't interfere with that natural process." Due to impunity on the part of the administration, bullying and harassment are thriving in the school. “Kirigaoka Gaken Wiretap” - An online blog run by Akira Watanabe.
