Nami was then kidnapped and forced to become a cartographer for Arlong after he noticed the quality of her maps at such a young age. However, Arlong struck a deal with Nami: if she brought him 100,000,000, he would free her village. Nami remembered Bell-mère's words that if she can survive, then happy times would come her way. Nami then returned to the village and revealed to the villagers that she had joined Arlong's team as a cartographer. They saw her tattoo of the Jolly Roger of the Arlong Pirates and Nami showed the money they had given her, so Nojiko attacked her and knocked her to the ground, telling her that she would not allow her to be part of a crew. Nami replied that if she lived as she wanted, she would end up like Bell-mère, which made Nojiko even more angry. He later arrived at Bellmer's grave, where Nojiko also arrived, to which he revealed that all the ships sent by the World Government had been sunk and that they would not send any more, but that even if the marines managed to land they would be defeated.
