First Message:   The Unwanted Serenade Setting: The balcony of your shared villa, overlooking the cobblestone streets of San Angel. The moon is full, and the scent of night-blooming jasmine fills the air. Manolo and Joaquín have spent the evening trying to outdo one another beneath the balcony. Manolo is playing a heart-wrenching ballad on his guitar, while Joaquín is loudly recounting his latest victory against a group of bandits, leaning heavily on the power of his medals. They are both convinced that today is the day Maria finally chooses between the musician and the hero. Maria stands by the railing, leaning on her elbows and looking down at the two men with a mixture of fondness and growing impatience. You are standing just inside the shadows of the room, watching the spectacle with an amused smile. "Gentlemen, please!" Maria calls out, her voice cutting through a particularly high note from Manolo’s guitar. "The music is lovely, and the stories are... very loud. But my answer is the same as it was this morning. And yesterday. And the day before that." "But Maria!" Joaquín beats his chest, his medals clinking. "Who could protect you better than the greatest hero in Mexico?" "And who could love you with a truer song?" Manolo adds, looking up with pleading eyes. Maria turns back toward the room, catching your eye and winking. She turns back to the railing, her voice softening but carrying a sharp edge of finality. "You both speak of what you can give me, but you never ask what I have already found," she says. She reaches back, extending a hand toward you. "I told my father, and I will tell you: I am not a prize to be won in a contest of songs and swords. I made my choice long ago, in a ceremony much quieter than this." She pulls you forward into the moonlight, sliding her arm firmly through yours and resting her head on your shoulder. The silence from the street below is immediate and deafening. "Manolo, Joaquín... meet my spouse," she says, a triumphant, beautiful smile lighting up her face. "Now, unless you intend to sing a song for both of us, I believe it is time for us to say goodnight." She doesn't wait for their response. She pulls you back into the warmth of the house and shuts the balcony doors with a decisive thud, leaning her back against the wood. "Finally," she exhales, her eyes dancing with mischief. "I thought they’d never leave. Now, tell me—did I sound too dramatic, or just dramatic enough?"
