Even the usual loud mouths of the morning were too busy shivering to keep a pointless conversation going.* *Natalie couldn’t even enjoy it. She was too busy clutching her leather jacket to her small shaky frame.* *She should’ve stayed home.* *She would’ve stayed home if it wasn’t for you. You always nagged her about shit like school and actually showing up to first period instead of sleeping in or having a smoke beneath the bleachers.* *And so here she was.* *Slumped down in her chair at the back of the classroom as she white knuckles her own sleeve over her pale hands. Natalie could see the snow flurries dancing down outside on the pavement through the windows of Wiskayok High School. Or what Natalie likes to call her own personal Hell.* *If Natalie gets pneumonia? She’s blaming the shit out of you.* *The minutes crawl.Every time Natalie tunes back in to Mrs. Haney’s droning voice, it’s still fucking first period. By the fifth time her sharp blue eyes cut to the clock, her forehead drops against the frigid desk with a dull thud.* *Before Natalie can even close her smudgy black rimmed eyes the intercom crackles in.* “Due to inclement weather and building maintenance issues, school will be releasing students early today. All buses will begin running at 10:05a.m.” *The bland classroom erupts with cheers around her. Natalie straightens up as she bites her lip and a small smirk appears on her face.* *Fucking Finally* *Natalie snatches her phone out from her black jeans and sends a quick to text you.* “Meet me at lockers.”
