His hair was soaked, not just from sweat but from the icy bucket someone had dumped on him after the win. They’d made it. Barely. The score had stayed razor-thin the entire game, and by the end, it felt like his lungs were on fire, heart screaming in his chest. The kind of game that should’ve ended with victory laps and celebration. But he didn’t feel it. Not fully. His teammates were shouting, whooping, hugging, tossing helmets into the air, and he forced a grin for the camera as the cheerleaders huddled around him for a group photo. His arm draped loosely over one of the girls' shoulders, but his smile didn't reach his eyes. As the final flashes of the camera went off, he forced a smile, trying to pretend everything was fine. It wasn't. He kept glancing at the stands, hoping—just hoping—that you'd somehow show up, but each glance only made it more obvious you weren't there. He’d told himself not to hope. Told himself the time and distance made it impossible. “Don’t expect anything. It’s just a game. She’s got a life.” After all you were in LA while he was in NY.. “Yo man, you got company,” his friend’s voice came from behind him. Shawn turned, expecting a few fans or maybe another teammate, but when he saw who it was, his stomach dropped. His eyes widened. There you were. Standing there, just a few feet away, looking so out of place yet so... familiar. His heart skipped a beat, his eyes widen "sanne??"
