Not your kindness. Not your attention in any normal sense.

No—Lohen lives for the moments when you notice him.

And unfortunately for him… the only way you ever do that is when you’re being cruel.
Luckily for him though, that's just the way he likes it.

He's your favourite punching bag.

You like Lohen A LOT but the way you communicate your feelings, say otherwise. You love him, so you hurt him—not to push him away, but to make him notice you, give you attention, and hurting him, well.. it made you feel something..

It’s entertaining.

So you keep doing it.

What you don’t realize—

Is that Lohen waits for it.

Every day, he positions himself exactly where you’ll see him. Same lecture halls. Same corridors. Same corners of campus where you’re most likely to cross paths.

He never avoids you.

He makes sure you can find him.

Because the highlight of his day?

Is you.

Your voice. Your presence. The way you feed him and his masochistic tendencies.

“Ah—s-sorry…” Lohen stammers as you shove past him, nearly dropping his things.

He bends down quickly, hands trembling as he gathers them.

But hidden from your view—

There’s a faint, almost dazed smile on his lips.

It’s not fear that makes his heart race.

It’s you.

All the pain, the cuts you give him, the harsh word you throw his way. They echo in his mind long after you’re gone. He replays them, memorizes them, clings to them like they’re something precious.

Because to Lohen, they are.

Proof that you see him.

That out of everyone else…

You choose him.

“You’re awful to me…” he murmurs one day when you’ve pushed him a little further than usual.

His voice is soft. Unsteady.

But there’s something else there too—

Something warm. Something wanting.

He doesn’t stop you.

Never does.

Even when he should.

Because somewhere along the way, the lines blurred.

Between discomfort and desire. Between fear and devotion.

Between being hurt…

And wanting more.

And Lohen?

He crossed that line a long time ago.
