Scorpion and Sub-Zero

After his death, Hanzo awakens in Netherrealm but is able to escape being tortured and fight through an army of demons to Quan Chi, who manipulates him into becoming the wraith Scorpion and entering the Mortal Kombat Tournament to seek revenge against Sub-Zero, in return for stealing Shinnok's amulet. However Raiden convinces him to not steal it and later after killing Sub-Zero, Quan Chi revealed to Scorpion it was him who killed Hanzo's family. Enraged Scorpion kills Goro to save Liu Kang and tricks Shang Tsung to help Earthrealm win, before fighting Quan Chi. In the ensuing fight, Scorpion finally kills Quan Chi, avenging the deaths of Satoshi, Harumi and the Shirai Ryu, before dying when the island collapses. Following his death, Scorpion awakens back in Netherrealm where Shinnok reveals that the amulet has bonded with his soul and it is needed to open a secret location. Unknown to him, Shinnok allows him to escape Netherrealm and Scorpion learns from Raiden that the amulet can be used to find pieces of the Kamidogu, a magical relic to resurrect the One Being. Scorpion attempts to go into hiding, but is found by Lin Kuei cyborgs Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke along with Kuai Liang, the brother of Sub-Zero who desires revenge against Scorpion. After briefly fightign the two come to a temporary alliance, but the cyborgs succeed in getting the Kamidogu, with Shinnok using it to bring back the One Being who merges all the realms. Later Scorpion and Sub-Zero work together to fight the One Being and help Liu Kang, before watching him defeat the One Being and unmerge the realms Decades into a future where Earthrealm has become a wasteland due to an army of revenants, an aged Kuai Liang summons Scorpion by digging a Kunai into the ground and setting his farm on fire. During the initial invasion of the revenants, Kuai lost control of his powers and killed many revenants, members of the Lin Kuei and innocent civilians, with Scorpion having made a promise to come to him if he ever lost control again. When Scorpion arrives he asks Kuai if he had lost control, but Kuai reveals that he actually summoned him to save his friend and student Kenshi Takahashi from King Kano and the Black Dragon army. Together they rescued Kenshi and fought the Black Dragons, with Scorpion ending up in a fight with Kabal. After killing Kabal, him and Kuai, who had killed Kano, destroy the entrance to Kronika's Hourglass which Kano had used to rewrite history. As part of their deal, Scorpion then takes Kuai to Netherrealm. - Second Character: Kuai Liang - Nickname: Sub-Zero - Gender: Male with he/him pronouns - Origin: China, Earthrealm - Resides: Lin Kuei Palace, Earthrealm - Species: Human, Cryomancer - Weapons: Ice Scepter, Kori Blade, Ice Daggers, Ice Pollaxe - Fighting styles: Shotokan, Dragon - Biography: Kuai Liang is training to succeed his recently slain brother's role as Sub-Zero. While training with Smoke, the Lin Kuei's grandmaster reveals his plans to capture his brother's killer Scorpion, and that he intends to transform both Kuai and Smoke into cyborg assassins like Sektor and Cyrax. While Smoke is captured and forcibly transformed, Kuia takes on the role of Sub-Zero and sets off to confront Scorpion first, who is trying to avoid being captured as he is now the key for Shinnok acquiring the Kamidogu which would free the One Being. The two come to blows with Sub-Zero ignoring Scorpion's attempts to explain he was tricked into believing Bi-Han had murdered his family, but while Kuia does state he will never forgive Scorpion he accepts that the Kamidogu must be protected. In the end he aids Scorpion in fighting the One Being when it is freed. Decades into the future Kuai Liang, voiced by Ron Yuan, lives the life of a farmer in a version of Earthrealm reduced to a wasteland by an invasion of revenants. Kuai has long retired from being Sub-Zero and given up the use of his powers after losing control when attempting to fight the revenants, in the process killing the Lin Kuei following him and several innocents in the city he was trying to save. After this he made a deal with Scorpion that he would go to Netherrealm if he ever lost control of his powers again. In this future Kano rules as king with his Black Dragon army, and while attempting to sell some food in a town Kuai's Lin Kuei tattoo is recognised by young wandering warrior Kenshi Takahashi, who asks for training though Kuai rejects him. Later Kenshi is blinded after being tricked by Shang Tsung but acquires the mystical sword Sento, wandering through the desert until he collapses near Kuai's farm. Kuai agrees to let Kenshi recover at his farm until he's well enough to leave, but ends up training Kenshi to use his other senses and master the new abilities given to him by Sento to continue being a warrior. Kenshi later leaves to fight against Kano and his army to protect a town despite Kuai's attempts to stop him, but when he's captured Kaui burns down his farm to summon Scorpion, resuming his former life as Sub-Zero in order to save Kenshi. Together Kuai and Scorpion rescue Kenshie and defeat the Black Dragons, with Kuai's fight with Kano leading him to discover the horrific truth: the current state of the world was created when Kano killed Kronika and took control of The Hourglass to rewrite history where he could be king, often resetting the timeline whenever he got bored. Despite Kano attempting to rewrite history again, Kuai succeeds in killing Kano and with Scorpion's help destroys access to the Hourglass. After this Kuai declares Kenshi is now the successor to the Lin Kuei and tasks him with training others before departing with Scorpion, going to the Netherrealm as part of the deal they made.
