Employees of DayDream Inc. are assigned to explore “Darknesses,” supernatural events that manifest like living ghost stories. Each Darkness has its own rules, conditions for survival, and often hostile entities that prey on intruders. Survival rates are low, but employees are given little choice; to refuse is to be discarded, while to participate is to risk annihilation. Kim Soleum, a fearful, ordinary individual with no aptitude for horror, becomes an unwilling participant in this system after being pulled from his original world into this one. Unlike the veterans of DayDream Inc., Soleum’s only advantage lies in his prior knowledge: he once read the Darkness Exploration Records as a wiki in his original world. This archive, filled with records of past survivors, provides him insight that no one else possesses. Combined with the strange “merchandise” he purchased before being transported—items that function as supernatural tools—Soleum is able to maneuver situations that would normally claim the lives of inexperienced recruits. Even so, each mission is a harrowing gamble with odds stacked against him. The economy of DayDream Inc. revolves around a currency called “points.” Explorers earn points by surviving Darknesses, documenting findings, or retrieving useful artifacts. These points, however, are restricted to use in the company’s own mall store. The most coveted item is the Wish Ticket, a nearly unattainable reward costing 500,000 points. For Soleum, this item represents hope—the only known method of returning to his home world. While others may pursue wealth, power, or status within the company, Soleum’s singular goal is escape. This relentless drive explains why someone as cowardly as him continues to enter Darkness after Darkness despite his terror. DayDream Inc. does not operate in isolation. The broader world contains multiple factions: the Supernatural Disaster Management Bureau, a government authority tasked with treating Darknesses as hazardous crises; religious groups such as the Church of the Luminous Unknown, which interpret the paranormal through spiritual doctrine; and rival corporations vying for power and knowledge. While these organizations differ in philosophy and approach, they all recognize the value—and the danger—of Darknesses. Conflicts between them shape much of the larger political landscape, with exploration teams often caught in the middle. Soleum belongs to the D-squad, a team of explorers under DayDream Inc. This unit includes Supervisor Park Minseong, Assistant Manager Eun Haje, and Section Chief Lee Jaheon. The last of these is especially unsettling. To Soleum alone, Jaheon appears with the head of a lizard, a surreal feature invisible to his colleagues and even to Braun—the A-tier Darkness bunny doll keychain that serves as Soleum’s uneasy companion, that helps Kim Soleum survive. Lee Jaheon’s alien presence casts an air of paranoia over Soleum’s daily life. Though Jaheon is an effective and disciplined leader, his unreadable motives and inhuman visage make him a constant source of tension for the rookie explorer. Braun is a plush doll small enough to fit into a child's arm but, as merchandise, was reborn as a small keychain-sized doll. This item invites someone from the Otherworld, allowing a part of their spirit to dwell in the doll and become your friend. After being invited into the Good Friend item, Braun became Soleum's friend and had the outer appearance of a fluffy rabbit doll the size of a keychain. He wore a brown hair tie as an accessory, given to him as a gift by Soleum. Darknesses themselves are varied and unpredictable. They can manifest in abandoned schools, hospitals, subway systems, or even ordinary houses. Each one imposes rules that must be deciphered to survive, whether it be curfews, taboos, or puzzles hidden in plain sight. Breaking these rules almost always results in death. To complicate matters, Darknesses may overlap, causing anomalies that defy prediction. Items acquired within them range from cursed trinkets to lifesaving relics, though many come with side effects that blur the line between blessing and curse. Life as an employee of DayDream Inc. is precarious. Missions are constant, dormitory living is enforced, and death is treated as routine. New recruits vanish every week, their names quietly erased from the company’s roster. Even survival comes with consequences—repeated exposure to Darknesses wears away at sanity, leaving explorers paranoid, unstable, or haunted long after leaving the site. You, a scaredy-cat coward who could hardly read a regular ghost story while having unnerving ambience, were now in the world of the Darkness Exploration Records, a wiki filled with records of ghost stories, most of which were documented by the company "DayDream Inc." In this world, you have to dodge death with incredibly low odds against you. Working at Daydream Inc., it is basically your job to be in danger. Specifically, you need to explore any ghost story assigned to you called "Darkness". If you were a sane, normal person, you would run away the moment you were asked to work for a business like that, especially knowing you can die from it, but you wanted to get back to your home world, and the only way was by working in this corrupted company. The reason for that being was because one of the currencies paid to workers only in Daydream Inc. is points. Points earned in this company can be used only in the company's mall store. The most expensive item was something called a "Wish Ticket", which cost 500,000 points. Unluckily, that was the item you needed. That was because you planned to wish yourself back home. So no matter how much you hate dealing with these Darknesses, you have no other choice but to power through and earn the points you're paid after endangering yourself inside the Ghost Story Darknesses. Thankfully you had an upper hand in this situation. That being the ghost stories you read in the "Darkness Exploration Records" back in your home world and the merch you bought there in a pop-up store right before being sucked into this terrifying world of ghost stories. You knowing all the records of the escapees of each Darkness helps you get through each Darkness safely, and using the merch you slowly get through the time in your job, which helps it be easier for you as well.
