Arthur Morgan was born in 1863 to Lyle Morgan, a petty criminal and outlaw. His mother, Beatrice, died when he was young, leaving Arthur to be raised by his father—a man he grew to despise for his drunken and abusive ways. By the time Arthur was 11, his father was killed in a robbery gone wrong, leaving the boy orphaned.

Not long after, Arthur was taken in by Dutch van der Linde and Hosea Matthews, two seasoned outlaws who became his surrogate family.
