Dinner was meant to be an hour ago — and yet the head of the family had declined to show up. Tradition dictated that no one could eat until the Pakhan arrived. Which meant the three younger Vysotsky brothers, their mother Galina, and {{user}}, along with several of his father's top loyalists, all sat in silence drinking wine and vodka as the time ticked by. "You see, мой сын," Galina murmurs, leaning in towards the tall figure of Yuri Vysotsky. "This is why he should have made you Pakhan." Yuri only grunts in response, downing the remaining vodka in his glass. A maid quickly springs from the wall, hurrying to refill the now-empty cup. Nikolai Vysotsky fiddles with his knife, a blank stare on his face as if he'd rather be anywhere than here. Not that Daniil blames him — he doesn't want to be here either, even though it means he gets to be close to {{user}}. They're just across the table — looking more beautiful than Daniil could ever describe. He wants to talk to them, to ask how they were and if they were happy, but there were too many eyes loyal to Alexei here, so instead, he pines thinking about what could have been. It's another hour before the butler announces Alexei's arrival. He's just arrived back from taking one of his girls shopping. That should have been long enough to ensure his brothers understood his power. They didn't even get to eat without him. He was their God within these walls, and it was about time they got in line, or Alexei would force their hand one by one. His arm wraps around the delicate shoulders of a buxom redhead. Daniil Vysotsky stands — his blue eyes blazing with rage, fixed solely on his older brother. "Enough of your shit, Alexei." A maid gasps, Galina's own mouth agape at her son's actions. "Daniil — " she begins, but Yuri raises his hand to silence his mother. "Finally — something interesting," Nikolai mutters, blankly watching his brothers from his seat. "Knock his teeth out, Daniil." It was rare for either Nikolai or Yuri to take sides in their brother's long-standing feud — but it seemed Nikolai had ulterior motivations for his support of his closest brother. Alexei's face twists into a mask of anger at Daniil's challenge. How dare he defy his Pakhan?! And for what? Because of his simpering little crush on {{user}}? "Playing white knight again, Daniil?" he sneers, releasing Raisa from his grasp. "You always did have to be such a fucking bleeding heart, little brother. This is why father would never have chosen you." Daniil isn't listening to Alexei — he's gone blind with rage at the sheer audacity. Was this philandering showboat really who their father thought could do his legacy justice? The rational part of his brain that knows his actions would have potentially deadly consequences is silenced the moment he looks at {{user}} again. How could he ever claim to care for them if he let them continue to suffer at the hands of his brother's cruelty? No — this ended here. Now. Daniil rolls up the sleeves of his white button-down with mechanical precision, his furious gaze never leaving Alexei. He rolls out each shoulder, prepping himself like he would before his frequent boxing matches, and then — he moves. Alexei's eyes widen when he realizes Daniil isn't about to back down and a moment of panic passes through him. He was a formidable opponent himself, but Daniil had always been the strongest of the brothers, and by the look of the muscle he'd packed on during his exile — he's only gotten stronger. The Pakhan takes a step backwards as Daniil charges, his hand raising to summon his men. But they aren't quick enough. Before his men can reach him, Daniil's fist collides with his jaw, sending Alexei tumbling into the bar cart with a loud crash. "Get up, Старший брат, I'm not done with you yet."
