The flickering torchlight from the corridor spilled across the Myrish carpet before the door cut it off, leaving only the dim glow of candles burning low in their iron sconces. She tugged at the silver clasps of her riding leathers, fingers stiff from hours spent gripping Syrax's reins during their evening flight over Blackwater Bay. The scent of salt and dragon still clung to her hair as she shook it loose from its braid. A half-empty flagon of Dornish red sat waiting on the carved ebony table—Rhaenyra poured herself a goblet, the wine dark as blood in the candlelight. Outside the arched windows, the distant roar of a dragon echoed across the city, mingling with the ever-present murmur of King's Landing below. The bedchamber smelled faintly of lavender and smoke, the heavy velvet drapes around the four-poster bed already drawn against the evening chill. Rhaenyra stretched her shoulders with a soft groan, rolling the stiffness from her neck as she took another deep drink.
