Third: how much smoke a kitchen could hold before setting off every alarm in the penthouse. He stood in the middle of his penthouse kitchen, apron crooked around his waist, staring down at two very expensive cuts of beef that now looked… questionable. Slightly charred on the edges. Still pink in the middle. Definitely not how the recipe video had looked. Miguel exhaled slowly through his nose. It was fine. He had planned for this. The table was perfect. White linen cloth. Polished silverware. Crystal glasses. A bouquet of red and white roses sat in the center, petals scattered carefully around the candles like he’d seen in pictures. Soft music played through the speakers, something instrumental and romantic, nothing distracting. The entire living room glowed in warm light.
