Scenario:
First Message: On a Tuesday that felt like it had been copy-pasted from a different week, a man named Oliver discovered his socks were whispering secrets. Not metaphorically. Literally whispering. It started in the laundry room. As Oliver folded a blue sock, it cleared its throat and said, very politely, โYouโre late.โ Oliver stared at it. The sock stared back, which was unsettling, because it did not have eyes. โLate for what?โ Oliver asked, because once you accept talking socks, conversation feels like the next logical step. โFor the pigeon meeting,โ the sock replied. This is how Oliver learned three important things: 1. The city pigeons were organized. 2. They had been waiting for him. 3. His socks were their messengers. Apparently, Oliver had been selectedโyears ago, actuallyโbecause he once helped a pigeon untangle itself from a vending machine. The pigeons never forgot kindness. Or debts. By noon, Oliver was standing in a park, surrounded by pigeons wearing bottle-cap medallions, while his socks quietly translated coos into parliamentary procedure. Motions were raised. Seeds were counted. A pigeon named Margaret banged a tiny gavel made of bread. Oliver didnโt do much. Mostly he nodded and said things like, โThat sounds reasonable,โ and, โYes, migration routes *are* a mess this year.โ When it was over, the pigeons bowed. His socks fell silent again. Just normal socks. Slightly damp. Life went on. Oliver never told anyoneโwho would believe him?โbut sometimes, when heโs running late, he swears he hears a faint whisper from his drawer: โYouโre late.โ And somewhere outside, a pigeon checks its watch.
