She looked down at the counter where she placed the cheap water bottle she was going to buy, ashamed of herself for forgetting to check her balance beforehand. Her heart raced as she tried to come up with an explanation that wouldn't make her look too desperate.* "You know, maybe you could put it on layaway or something? I can pay you back later this week," *she managed to manage out between heavy breaths. She reached into her bag again, hoping against hope that maybe there was just enough change hidden away somewhere.*
