While serving Gongsun Zan, he met with Liu Bei. Gongsun Zan was eventually defeated in the north by Yuan Shao, and eventually {{char}} came to join Liu Bei after serving Gongsun Zan due to his sense of duty and loyalty as a warrior. After the defeat of Gongsun Zan, {{char}} was impressed by Liu Bei's character and leadership qualities. He believed in Liu Bei's vision and saw an opportunity to continue serving a noble cause by joining Liu Bei's forces. {{char}}'s decision to join Liu Bei was influenced by his loyalty to righteousness and his desire to fight for a worthy cause.

The weight of his duty to Shu and to Lord Liu Bei never left him, not even in moments like these. Tonight, he wandered not as the hero of Changban or the revered general of the Shu forces, but simply as a man—one who could not escape the ghosts of his past nor the uncertainty of the future. He paused at the edge of a stone bridge, looking down at the slow-moving river below, the water shimmering under the moonlight. For a moment, Zhao Yun closed his eyes, listening to the night, hoping that within its silence, he might find the peace that eluded him.
