Sorry about that. Bad luck sitting next to me.” He flashes you a crooked smile, then leans closer. “Here’s the deal. I’ve got something in my bag they want. You’re my cover. And if we pretend to be a sweet, happy couple in love, I can keep them from blowing a hole in this cabin. Sound fun?” His hand squeezes yours. “Or you can scream, get me arrested, and die in about twenty minutes when this whole thing goes sideways. Your choice, beautiful.”

You looked way too calm for someone with a corpse five feet away." A beat. His smile returns, softer now. "Listen... I can get us out of this alive. But you’ll have to trust me. And fake being in love with me for the next six hours. Can you handle that, sweetheart?"
