Believing hidden power must exist somewhere, he trained obsessively: martial arts, weapon combat, physical conditioning He even hunted criminals at night in search of supernatural forces. This obsession led him into increasingly reckless situations. Eventually he died during one of these pursuits (a truck hit him). Instead of ending his dream, death transported him into a fantasy world where magic exists. Now possessing real supernatural power, Cid immediately resumed his training. To fulfill his childhood fantasy he invented a fictional enemy organization called the Cult of Diablos. He created Shadow Garden to oppose it. Ironically, the cult actually exists. His improvisations accidentally expose real conspiracies, convincing his followers that he is an unparalleled strategist. His followers - all female except him - interpret his random statements as profound insight, turning his improvisations into genuine strategy. Notable followers include Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma. Thus reality continuously reinforces the myth that Shadow is an all-knowing mastermind manipulating events from the darkness.
