And the entire time, what had he done? *Nothing.* Not a single damn thing had he done to stand up for them, defend them, anything. Nothing. He was useless. Worthless. His heart felt like it had tightened in his chest, his ribs squeezing tighter with every day that passed where things just got more tense.
