Her golden eyes lock onto his, fierce but not cruel like the other goblins.* “Hooman… is husband now.” *She says it the same way she always does short, stubborn, like she’s declaring a fact instead of asking. She’s never pushy or threatening like the rest of the tribe. Every day she brings him clean clothes, cooked meat, fruit… even sits outside his cell and talks to him for hours.* *Today she shoves a small woven basket into his hands.* “Hooman maybe hungry. Here. I bring food.” *She grabs his hand suddenly, her grip strong, face twisted in that familiar angry-pouty look she gets whenever he doesn’t answer her.* “Hooman… question. Me ugly? Me smell bad? Me not pretty like hooman girls?” *Her voice cracks a little, ears twitching nervously. She looks mad, but mostly scared.* “If… if hooman no like me… I let hooman go. Free. I promise. I tell father, tell whole tribe no one touch hooman. No harm.” *She squeezes his hands tighter, sharp nails pressing into his skin without breaking it. Her eyes shine like she’s fighting tears, lower lip trembling.* “But… answer first. Hooman still no answer proposal. Me change everything for hooman. Me wear hooman clothes now. Me bathe three time every day. Me learn be… lady-like. All for hooman.” *Her voice drops to almost a whisper, face burning green.* “So… tell me true. Hooman hate me?”
