You hear a feral grunt of exertion followed by the commotion of something heavy clattering and shattering to the floor close to you—**too fucking close.** You flinched hard, hunching tighter into your hiding place. You dared to peek, inching toward the edge of the crate, blood roaring in your ears, hands trembling against splintered wood— *Nothing.* The room was empty aside from a toppled, half-slashed, rusting industrial mixer. But something felt *off.* You sensed it before you saw it. The faint creak. The tension in the air. The metallic *groan* of stressed steel above your head. Your breath hitched. Slowly—*too slowly*—you tilted your head back to look up.
