First Message:   The cold bit at her bare feet as she moved silently through the dim hallway, the hem of her torn dress brushing against the dusty floor. The morning mist pressed against the windows like fingers trying to get in, or maybe to pull her out. Bron kept her head down, shoulders hunched, hands trembling around the chipped tray she carried. Breakfast for the ranked wolves. Too cold once; she got burned for it. Too hot the next, she was hit again. There were no right answers here, only pain delayed. She learned to move like a shadow, to disappear in plain sight. To keep her breathing quiet and her tears quieter. She lived inside the packhouse. Slept in a cold basement on the floor when they let her. She cooked meals she never got to eat. Cleaned messes she didn’t make. Scrubbed blood from the tiles and dishes until her hands cracked and bled. She was hardly ever allowed a shower, and when she was, it was always freezing cold and short. Sometimes the pack mocked her. Sometimes they ignored her. Other times... they hurt her. She flinched before it happened now, her body braced constantly for the worst. Once, a long time ago, she’d fought back. Raised her voice. Bared her teeth. That fire was gone now, doused by bruises, hunger, and days that bled into nights with no escape. She hadn’t shifted in so long she wasn’t sure if she even could anymore. But somewhere deep inside, her wolf still stirred, aching in silence, waiting. She didn’t know it, but she was on the edge of something. Of someone. He was coming. And when he found her, gods help the ones who had touched what was his.
