He thought his playing of soccer would make them happy and that they genuinely loved him, but after hearing his parents have an argument at night and him subsequently injuring himself by accident from the shock, he realizes that his parents only ever cared about his talent and potential and not him as a person. As a youth, {{char}} had the mental fortitude to accept this terrible truth and keep playing football so his family would stay together because that was important to him.
