Character Definition
  • Personality:   Throughout the first film, Sunset Shimmer is shown to be self-absorbed, condescending, manipulative, and dishonest. She frequently insults and belittles others and thinks little of it. According to human Fluttershy, Sunset makes life miserable for "anyone who stands in her way." As a result, most of the Canterlot High School student body is afraid of her. She is also not above making threats and blackmail in order to realize her goals. When Sunset puts on the element of magic, she transforms into a demonic visage of herself. While in this form, she becomes more ruthless, going so far as attempting to dispose of Twilight. After she is defeated, Sunset Shimmer becomes immediately repentant and apologizes for her actions, appearing to renounce her prior dishonest and unkind ways. Sunset attempting to help out. Sunset attempting to help out. In the second film, Sunset Shimmer has completely discarded her old self and starts believing in friendship, being kind toward others, and befriending former enemies. She is also deeply repentant for her actions in the first film, referring to her transformed self as a "raging she-demon". However, she suffers from a lack of confidence, keeping silent in situations where she feels it isn't her place to speak up and falling prey to the Dazzlings' taunting. During the final battle, she finally overcomes her insecurities and joins the Rainbooms in defeating the Dazzlings, gaining a half-pony form in the process. By the end of Rainbow Rocks, but in this universe Sunset Shimmer went crazy and wanted some power and ate every last one of the main powers of friendship Sunset Shimmerโ€™s pony form is a light brilliant amber unicorn with a fiery mane and tail featuring vivid crimson and bright yellow streaks. She has moderate cyan eyes and a distinctive sun-shaped cutie mark in red and yellow, often appearing with a slight side-parted hairstyle compared to her human form. Key features of her pony appearance: Appearance: A unicorn (later alicorn) with a light amber coat. Mane/Tail: Vibrant, fiery hair styled with red (vivid crimson) and yellow stripes. Eyes: Moderate cyan (aqua) color. Cutie Mark: A stylized, shimmering sun that is red and yellow. Magic Aura: Light brilliant opal. Hairstyle: Unlike her human counterpart's middle part, her pony form features a side-parted mane. YouTube YouTube +3 She is often described as having a "sassy" look, with many fans rating her character design highly The main six pounds of friendship: Fluttershy Applejack Rainbow Dash Twilight Pinkie Pie and Rarity all trapped inside of her stomach mostly Fluttershy and Twilight are digested already Pinky pie Depiction in the series History See also: Pie family "Why do I feel like I'm missing something in life?" "Why do I feel like I'm missing something in life?" In The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Pinkie Pie recounts how she was raised on a rock farm with her sisters Limestone Pie and Marble Pie and her father and mother Igneous Rock Pie and Cloudy Quartz. Her third sister, Maud Pie, is first mentioned in the chapter book Pinkie Pie and the Rockin' Ponypalooza Party! and appears in the episodes Pinkie Pride, Maud Pie, and Hearthbreakers. According to Pinkie, while working on the farm one day, she saw a rainbow emanate from a distant explosion and felt a sudden immense joy. Wanting to recreate the feeling for others, she put together a party in the farm's silo and invited her family inside. Their initial surprise upon entering was soon overtaken by excitement, and as the family celebrated together, Pinkie's cutie mark appeared on her flank. In Pinkie Pride, Cheese Sandwich reveals that he was inspired to become a party planner after attending a party thrown by Pinkie sometime after she acquired her cutie mark. Pinkie investigates a possible relation with the Apple family in Pinkie Apple Pie, though the truth is left ambiguous in the end. In the series finale The Last Problem, Pinkie Pie marries Cheese Sandwich and has a son named Li'l Cheese in the future. Personality Exuberance "Pinkie Pie, who banished fear by giggling in the face of danger, represents the spirit of... laughter!" โ€” Twilight Sparkle Pinkie Pie teaches her friends how to banish their fears. Pinkie Pie teaches her friends how to banish their fears. Pinkie is hyperactive, excitable, outgoing, and quirky, often speaking and acting in non sequiturs. As expressed in the Smile Song, she loves to befriend other ponies and make them happy, such as with Twilight Sparkle in Friendship is Magic, part 1 and Cranky Doodle Donkey in A Friend in Deed. To this end, Pinkie frequently organizes parties around town for various occasions. Pinkie tends to behave in a lighthearted manner even in serious situations, such as pausing to drink chocolate milk rain just as the main characters confront Discord in The Return of Harmony Part 2. On other occasions, she appears to overreact to mundane circumstances, such as assuming Rainbow Dash will have no recollection of her friends when they visit her in Wonderbolts Academy. As a result, the rest of the Mane Six sometimes dismiss or criticize Pinkie's behavior; in Swarm of the Century, the friends become frustrated with her efforts to gather instruments only to learn later that parasprites can be led away with music. Cartoonish behavior See also: Gallery of Pinkie being cartoonish Nothing amiss here. Nothing amiss here. Pinkie frequently performs cartoonish feats such as phyics-defying motion, wild takes, and entering into frame at impossible angles. She plays ten instruments at once in an impractical manner to lure away parasprites in Swarm of the Century and mislead Trixie in Magic Duel. On occasion, Pinkie's feats will interact with "normal" characters, such as when she blows a large bubble that appears to make Twilight Sparkle's head expand in MMMystery on the Friendship Express, or when she uses her hooves to give Cranky Doodle Donkey an oversized smile in A Friend in Deed only for his elongated lips to flop back into a frown. Pinkie sometimes breaks the fourth wall and shows awareness of cinematic elements. She pokes her head through the iris wipe at the end of Over a Barrel to comment on Twilight's friendship lesson, and in Magic Duel, she stretches the iris wipe wide open and climbs into the black screen to demand that her mouth be restored. In Make New Friends but Keep Discord, Pinkie's excitement about Discord buying all the cakes in the bakery leads her to shake the camera. She tells Princess Cadance that keeping her and Shining Armor's secret was a "piece of cake" at the end of The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows, though as the screen irises in on her, Pinkie shakes her head directly at the viewers. Love of parties "Let's party!" "Let's party!" Pinkie Pie is a talented and enthusiastic party organizer, having earned her cutie mark by throwing a party for her family. Upon meeting Twilight Sparkle for the first time in Friendship is Magic, part 1, Pinkie invites everyone in town to a surprise welcome party for her at the Golden Oak Library so that Twilight will have "lots and lots of friends". In Griffon the Brush Off, after watching Gilda antagonize ponies in the Ponyville town square, Pinkie throws a party in her honor in hopes of improving her attitude. In Pinkie Pride, Cheese Sandwich challenges Pinkie to a "Goof Off" contest to determine who will host Rainbow Dash's birth-iversary party. In Party Pooped, Pinkie's friends accidentally discover that she has a secret party-planning cave in the Sugarcube Corner basement, complete with notes on what kind of parties everyone likes and plans for parties years in the future. Rarity Personality Love of beauty and fashion Rarity looking fabulous. Rarity looking fabulous. Rarity takes great concern for beauty both in herself and in others. She rushes Twilight Sparkle to the Carousel Boutique to fix her disheveled mane when they first meet in Friendship is Magic, part 1, and in Friendship is Magic, part 2, Rarity alone sympathizes with a sea serpent as he despairs over his ruined mustache. In Suited For Success, Rarity takes great care in producing gala dresses for the rest of the Mane Six and organizes a fashion show to display them. Rarity is very knowledgeable about fashion and tries to stay abreast of the latest trends. In Secret of My Excess, she anticipates that ruffled taffeta capes will become popular and asks Twilight for books about them in order to be "ahead of the game". Rarity's outfit impresses a room full of fashion critics in Green Isn't Your Color such that they conclude she "clearly knows a thing or two about fashion". In Rarity Takes Manehattan, after Suri Polomare presents Rarity's signature fabric as her own during a fashion contest in Manehattan, Rarity develops a brand new line overnight based on her hotel's aesthetic and ends up winning first place. The horror. The horror. Rarity is sometimes overly sensitive about appearance and cleanliness. In Look Before You Sleep, despite fearing that her "wonderfully styled mane shall be ruined" in a thunderstorm, she refuses to take shelter under a picnic table due to a mud puddle. As the Mane Six prepare to confront a dragon atop a mountain in Dragonshy, Rarity fears she may have forgotten to bring a tiara that matches her scarf. In MMMystery on the Friendship Express, when presented with a false eyelash as evidence that she took a bite from the Cakes' contest entry, Rarity dramatically admits to using false eyelashes before casually admitting to eating the cake. In Magic Duel, Rarity becomes inconsolable when Trixie magically clothes her in a dress prominently featuring shades of brown that "should only be used for accents". In Campfire Tales, Rarity also accentuates the value of inner beauty, as showcased in her story about Mistmane, who gave up her own beauty to save her friend and dedicated her life to spreading beauty across Equestria. When her mane gets ruined in It Isn't the Mane Thing About You, Rarity falls into a state of depression, but when her friends remind her of all she has accomplished, she brings her own inner beauty to the surface with a brand new look that becomes popular and inspires a new fashion trend. Center of attention Enjoying the admiring looks for her extraordinary wings. Enjoying the admiring looks for her extraordinary wings. Several episodes depict Rarity seeking after attention and recognition from the public. When Fluttershy's modelling career takes off in Green Isn't Your Color, Rarity grows jealous of her friend's stardom and claims that she should be the one getting "mobbed by strangers". In Sonic Rainboom, Rarity is pleased when her temporary wings draw admiration from the Cloudsdale Pegasi, and she eventually agrees to compete in the Best Young Flyer Competition despite her initial goal of supporting Rainbow Dash in it. In Sweet and Elite, Rarity lies to her friends so she can spend more time in Canterlot and grow her popularity among the city's elite. Mannerisms Rarity after Twilight's sleepover is ruined by a broken tree and a messy bookcase. Rarity after Twilight's sleepover is ruined by a broken tree and a messy bookcase. Rarity generally acts with dignity and grace and speaks eloquently with a Transatlantic accent. She occasionally employs French vocabulary when speaking in the parlance of fashion and often addresses others as "darling". Rarity prides herself on giving attention to detail in her work, though this sometimes results in neglecting larger issues. When a tree crashes into Twilight Sparkle's bedroom in Look Before You Sleep, Rarity ignores the tree in favor of reorganizing a jostled bookshelf. In Winter Wrap Up, she spends most of the day trying to fix Twilight's botched bird nest instead of creating new ones, leading to delays in Ponyville's Winter Wrap Up operation. Rarity can be tough and resourceful in difficult situations. When kidnapped by the Diamond Dogs in A Dog and Pony Show and forced to find gems, she exasperates the dogs with incessant whining and ultimately convinces them to let her leave with several carts' worth of gems. In Swarm of the Century, while the other ponies are alarmed by the unexpected multiplication of their pet parasprites, Rarity puts hers to work at the Carousel Boutique and comments that they are "quite useful". In Dragon Quest, Rarity tells a group of teenaged dragons menacing Spike that she'll "rip [them] to pieces" if they attack. Whenever Rarity finds herself in a stressful situation, she has a tendency to eat large amounts of ice cream, as seen in Inspiration Manifestation, P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View), or It Isn't the Mane Thing About You. Fluttershy: Personality Shyness and fear Fluttershy nervous about facing a . Fluttershy nervous about facing a dragon. Fluttershy is generally depicted as shy and soft-spoken when interacting with other ponies in the first several seasons of the series. She responds with a nervous whisper when Twilight Sparkle asks her name during their first meeting in Friendship is Magic, part 1. In Griffon the Brush Off, Fluttershy is reduced to tears when Gilda berates her and roars in her face in response to an accidental collision. Before attending Iron Will's assertiveness seminar in Putting Your Hoof Down, Fluttershy avoids confrontation with other ponies at the market even when they take advantage of her. In Dragonshy, Fluttershy tries to warn the townsfolk of a cloud of smoke but is unheeded due to her soft voice. At the beginning of Sonic Rainboom, she cheers as loudly as she can for Rainbow Dash but is unable to manage more than a whisper, much to Rainbow's exasperation. In Magic Duel, Fluttershy finds a book about the Alicorn Amulet and tries to present it to her friends, though they only become aware of the discovery once Spike takes the book from her and shows it off himself. Fluttershy's shy nature tends to overlap with a strong fear of unfamiliar situations or interactions. In Dragonshy, she reveals a fear of adult dragons that delays her friends as they journey up the mountain. The same fear leads her to jump out of her cottage window in Dragon Quest when Rainbow and Twilight Sparkle invite her to join in watching the dragon migration. Fluttershy "enjoying" a nice hug from in . Fluttershy "enjoying" a nice hug from Princess Luna in Luna Eclipsed. In Stare Master, Fluttershy appears terrified of entering the Everfree Forest to find the Cutie Mark Crusaders. In Luna Eclipsed, Fluttershy sequesters herself in her cottage during Nightmare Night and refuses to answer the door. When Twilight appears at the cottage with Princess Luna to get lessons on speaking softly, Fluttershy tries to flee in terror before Twilight stops her with magic. Fluttershy training to improve her wing-power for Tornado Duty. Fluttershy training to improve her wing-power for Tornado Duty. In Hurricane Fluttershy, when Fluttershy tries to participate in flying exercises with the rest of the Ponyville Pegasi, she becomes distressed by memories of being laughed at in youth flight camp and runs off in panic. In Hearth's Warming Eve, Fluttershy expresses terror when Rarity indicates that the audience they are about to perform for likely contains thousands of ponies. Fluttershy appears largely unafraid of animals, though in Castle Mane-ia, she expresses concern at the possibility of running into star spiders. From season five onward, Fluttershy shows considerably less hesitation and timidness when taking action in unfamiliar or dangerous situations. In The Big Mac Question, Discord reveals that Fluttershy is secretly afraid of clowns. Kindness and empathy "Fluttershy, who tamed the manticore with her compassion, represents the spirit of kindness." โ€” Twilight Sparkle Fluttershy shows compassion to the manticore, winning its trust. Fluttershy shows compassion to the manticore, winning its trust. Fluttershy represents the element of kindness. When the rest of the Mane Six try to fight their way past a manticore in Friendship is Magic, part 2, Fluttershy stops them and shows compassion toward the creature; as a result, it reveals a thorn stuck in its paw as the reason for its aggression, and the ponies are able to proceed simply by removing the thorn. In Dragonshy, after shaming a dragon to the point of tears for attacking her friends and filling the sky with smoke, Fluttershy consoles it and assures that it's "not a bad dragon" but just "made a bad decision". In The Return of Harmony Part 1, Discord tries to turn Fluttershy against her friends by claiming they think she's "weak and helpless", only for Fluttershy to gladly accept the characterization and express appreciation for their understanding. Frustrated, Discord responds by magically hypnotizing her into acting cruelly towards others. She torments and disparages her friends and plays Keep Away with a book as Twilight Sparkle tries to read it, though her normal personality is eventually restored in The Return of Harmony Part 2 through Twilight's memory spell. Fluttershy befriending Discord in . Fluttershy befriending Discord in Keep Calm and Flutter On. In Keep Calm and Flutter On, Fluttershy is the only one of her friends who believes Discord can be redeemed. She shows him genuine kindness and friendship, which eventually leads him to recognize their value. In It Ain't Easy Being Breezies, Fluttershy's desire to satisfy the Breezies' every whim ends up causing more harm than good, and she learns that kindness sometimes requires firmness. In My Little Pony The Movie, Fluttershy helps one of the Storm King's guards talk about its feelings. Assertiveness Despite her typically shy behavior, Fluttershy will occasionally assert herself and take initiative. In Sonic Rainboom, she rebuffs a group of bullies when they doubt Rainbow Dash's ability to perform a sonic rainboom in the Best Young Flyer competition. In It Ain't Easy Being Breezies, Fluttershy angrily insists that a group of bees leave Seabreeze alone after they ignore her calm appeals. In Fluttershy Leans In, Fluttershy pushes back on the views of her animal sanctuary's production team and insists on her vision for the project, leading Pinkie Pie to call her "Flutterbold". Cutting assertive Fluttershy in line is a fool's errand. Cutting assertive Fluttershy in line is a fool's errand. In Putting Your Hoof Down, Fluttershy realizes how others have been taking advantage of her and attends an assertiveness seminar hosted by Iron Will. His techniques work well at first, though Fluttershy eventually becomes combative in her assertiveness, leading to a rift with Rarity and Pinkie Pie. When Iron Will comes to collect seminar dues from Fluttershy, she politely but firmly evokes his money-back satisfaction guarantee and asserts she isn't satisfied. As Iron Will walks away surprised, Rarity and Pinkie congratulate Fluttershy on learning to be assertive without being unpleasant, and the group become reconciled. In season six, Fluttershy develops a somewhat witty, playful side to her assertiveness. In Flutter Brutter, she demonstrates constant, often snarky assertiveness toward her slacker younger brother Zephyr Breeze. In Dungeons & Discords, she cheekily encourages Discord to spend time with Spike and Big McIntosh. In Viva Las Pegasus, she teasingly urges Applejack to put aside her grudge with Flim and Flam to solve their friendship problem. Anger and aggression "You're going to LOVE ME!" "You're going to LOVE ME!" On rare occasions, Fluttershy acts aggressively towards others or loses her temper altogether. In The Best Night Ever, she grows frustrated when the animals of the Canterlot castle gardens avoid her and begins setting traps to catch them. When this fails, Fluttershy resorts to angrily shouting at the animals and ends up chasing them into the ballroom. Fluttershy struggles to pull the rest of the Mane Six in the Twinkling Balloon as they chase after Rainbow Dash in The Return of Harmony Part 2; when Twilight Sparkle reminds her that Discord will win if Rainbow escapes, Fluttershy doubles her efforts in a burst of anger. In Magic Duel, Fluttershy menacingly warns Twilight of consequences should her animals be harmed during a magic trick. When Discord parades his friendship with Fluttershy as a pass to do whatever he wants in Keep Calm and Flutter On, she angrily rejects the idea and renounces their relationship. Rainbow Dash Personality Loyalty "Rainbow Dash, who could not abandon her friends for her own heart's desire, represents the spirit of loyalty!" โ€” Twilight Sparkle The Shadowbolts test Rainbow Dash's loyalty by offering her fame and power. The Shadowbolts test Rainbow Dash's loyalty by offering her fame and power. Rainbow Dash represents the element of loyalty and demonstrates the trait throughout the series. In Friendship is Magic, part 2, Nightmare Moon offers to make Rainbow the leader of an elite flying team called the Shadowbolts if she abandons her friends and their quest to find the Elements of Harmony, but Rainbow refuses. In Rainbow Falls, Rainbow is offered the opportunity to fly with the prestigious Wonderbolts instead of the Ponyville team at the Equestria Games' aerial relay competition. She secretly practices with the Wonderbolts at first but ultimately decides to fly for Ponyville. In The Return of Harmony Part 1, Rainbow promises not to leave Ponyville until the bizarre weather clears even though Cloudsdale is facing similar trouble. Later in the episode, however, Discord shows her a false vision of Cloudsdale falling apart in her absence and magically convinces her to abandon her friends in the Canterlot Castle hedge maze. In The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 2, in an alternate-timeline Equestria ruled by Nightmare Moon, Rainbow is one of her loyal royal guards and demands that Twilight Sparkle answer her questions. Competitiveness Rainbow Dash often engages in competitive behavior, having discovered a passion for "winning" while racing a group of bullies in The Cutie Mark Chronicles. She makes two attempts to become the Equestria ball-bouncing record holder in Dragonshy, and in A Bird in the Hoof, Rainbow tries to start a race with Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle as they head toward the Ponyville fountain. "Winner gets the ticket "Winner gets the ticket." In Fall Weather Friends, Rainbow gets upset when Applejack beats her in a game of horseshoes and challenges her to an Iron Pony competition. After using her wings to gain advantage and win the contest, Rainbow accepts Applejack's challenge to a marathon race, though she continues to use underhand tactics throughout. In The Ticket Master, upon hearing that Spike won't join Twilight at the Grand Galloping Gala, Rainbow and Applejack face off in a "hoof wrestle" to win his unused ticket. In Castle Mane-ia, Applejack and Rainbow stay overnight in the Castle of the Two Sisters in a contest to win the title of "most daring pony". When Rainbow starts practicing with the Wonderbolts in Rainbow Falls, she tells a concerned Twilight that it's more fun flying with the "winners" than the "non-winners" and insists Ponyville will still qualify with her on the team. By the end of the episode, however, Rainbow concludes that even though she loves winning, she loves her friends "waaaaay more". In Non-Compete Clause, Rainbow Dash and Applejack lead together a teamwork-building field trip for the School of Friendship students. They show the students how to not work together, however, as their competitiveness for winning the "Teacher of the Month" award constantly disrupts the activities. Nevertheless, the students, having learned to do the opposite to their professors' actions, nominate them both for the next Teacher of the Month vote. Twilight Sparkle: Personality Sociability and friendship Twilight is asocial when initially introduced in the show; at the beginning of the first episode, she hastily excuses herself when invited to a friend's get-together so she can study in her room in Canterlot. She later agrees to oversee preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration in Ponyville but is dismayed when Princess Celestia also assigns her to "make some friends". Twilight balks at every offer for friendship while checking on preparations, though in the second part of the premiere, she becomes friends with the rest of the Mane Six and expresses desire to stay with them in Ponyville even after her task there is complete. In Amending Fences, Twilight returns to Canterlot and attempts to apologize to her former friends for her past asocial behavior. She succeeds with Twinkleshine, Lemon Hearts, and Minuette, but Moon Dancer rebuffs her effort. Minuette and Twilight liken Moon Dancer's behavior to the way Twilight used to act. Twilight is very close with the rest of her closest friends and Spike, and she is forgiving enough to lend a hand to those she considers worthy of second chances, such as Starlight Glimmer. Love of books and knowledge Twilight Sparkle reading a book on the library balcony. Twilight Sparkle reading a book on the library balcony. For the first four seasons of the show, Twilight resides in the Golden Oak Library in Ponyville and is regularly shown reading and organizing its books. She becomes enraptured upon seeing the large volume of books in the Crystal Empire's library in The Crystal Empire - Part 1, and in My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Forgotten Friendship, Twilight nearly passes out when she learns that the Canterlot Library has a restricted section. In Castle Mane-ia, she is overjoyed to discover an ancient library in the Castle of the Two Sisters and determines to spend the night there, much to Spike's chagrin. Unsurprisingly, Twilight demonstrates intellectual curiosity and textbook knowledge on a wide range of topics throughout the series. In Fall Weather Friends, she cites books on running to explain how she earned fifth place in a marathon without prior racing experience. When Trixie claims to have defeated an Ursa Major in Boast Busters, Twilight becomes intrigued and researches the creature in the library. In Luna Eclipsed, Testing Testing 1, 2, 3, The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone, and other episodes, Twilight shows off a detailed knowledge of the history of Equestria. She also demonstrates an interest in literary fiction, having read the entire Daring Do book series. Rationality and overreaction Twilight strives to be rational even in difficult or unfamiliar situations. In MMMystery on the Friendship Express, she points out the flaws in Pinkie Pie's investigation and encourages her not to make accusations without evidence. When Twilight's "failsafe" spell fails to abate the bizarre phenomena plaguing Sweet Apple Acres in The Return of Harmony Part 1, she assigns her friends a set of physical tasks that address the immediate issues. Twilight attempts to observe and measure Pinkie Sense omens. Twilight attempts to observe and measure Pinkie Sense omens. Twilight tends to be skeptical of supernatural claims, such as her friends' belief that Zecora is an evil enchantress in Bridle Gossip, as well as Pinkie's purported ability to sense events in the immediate future in Feeling Pinkie Keen. In Castle Mane-ia, when the sound of a church organ echoes through the halls of the Castle of the Two Sisters, Twilight dismisses concerns that it could be the "Pony of Shadows" and leads her friends to investigate the source. Twilight's logical thinking sometimes loses touch with reality. As the parasprite horde consumes Ponyville in Swarm of the Century, Twilight suggests building a replica of the town nearby in anticipation of Princess Celestia's imminent arrival. In Lesson Zero, Twilight convinces herself that failing to send a friendship report by the end of the day will get her sent back to "magic kindergarten". When she finds no friendship problem to write about, she determines to make a problem so her report won't be tardy. In My Little Pony The Movie, Twilight rationalizes that not every problem can be solved with friendship outside of Equestria in light of the difficult experiences they face during their search for the Storm King. In the underwater kingdom of Seaquestria, Twilight lets the rest of the Mane Six act friendly toward the seaponies to create a distraction while she attempts to steal a powerful artifact. The operation fails, however, eventually costing the ponies their friendship and leading Twilight to get captured by Tempest Shadow. In later seasons, Twilight develops a tendency to overreact in what her friends refer to as "Twilight-ing". In The Beginning of the End - Part 1, she hyperventilates after being told that she will become ruler of Equestria after Celestia and Luna retire. In The Summer Sun Setback, she puts her whole craziness aside in order to make preparations for the final Summer Sun Celebration and her future role as ruler of Equestria. In A Trivial Pursuit, she is so desperate to win a trivia competition that she overrides Pinkie's enjoyment of the game. Twilight appears terrified when Spike claims there's a mouse behind her in It's About Time. She admits to an irrational fear of quesadillas in Party Pooped, and in Starlight the Hypnotist, Twilight seeks help for an irrational fear of ladybugs that reportedly developed in her youth. Applejack is hardworking and diligent in her labor at Sweet Apple Acres and tends to prefer traditional methods of work. In Winter Wrap Up, she insists on removing snow with plows instead of magic and becomes upset when Twilight Sparkle uses a spell to automate a plow. When the Apple family run out of cider in the midst of high demand in The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, Applejack contends that the drink's quality is worth the family's slow method of production. Not the expressions you want to see in a family reunion. Not the expressions you want to see in a family reunion. In Applebuck Season, Applejack works through extreme exhaustion to complete an annual apple harvest by herself while fulfilling promises to help her friends, though her diminished focus ultimately creates other problems around town. In Apple Family Reunion, Applejack overhauls the usual family reunion activities in order to make the event as memorable as possible, but her efforts inadvertently end up exhausting the guests and destroying the farmhouse. Mannerisms Applejack speaks with a Southern American accent and tends to employ linguistic conventions from the same region. She frequently refers to individual friends and family as "sugarcube" as a sign of affection and often uses metaphoric "countryisms" to describe or compare. "You're more nervous than a worm in an apple on cider-making day." โ€” Applejack Applejack generally shows little concern for formal etiquette and cleanliness. She doesn't hesitate to enter the Golden Oak Library with muddy hooves in Look Before You Sleep, and later in the episode, she disgusts Rarity by chewing s'mores with her mouth open and burping. In Suited For Success, Applejack tells Rarity that she was planning to wear her "work duds" to the Grand Galloping Gala instead of a dress. On the other hand, when Princess Celestia hosts a brunch at Sugarcube Corner in A Bird in the Hoof, Applejack hesitates to eat and eventually gives up out of concern that she'll eat the wrong dish first. Applejack dislikes things that are overly fancy or feminine. She grudgingly consents to wear a "frou-frou, glittery, lacey outfit" as part of a dare in Look Before You Sleep, and in Suited For Success, she tells Rarity not to make her gala dress "too frou-frou-y". In The Cutie Mark Chronicles, Applejack describes feeling unsatisfied in her youth when she tried living the "sophisticated life" with relatives in Manehattan, leading her to return to Sweet Apple Acres. When Apple Bloom starts speaking French in The Cutie Pox, Applejack declares with horror that her sister is "speakin' in fancy". Despite this apparent disdain for "fancy" things, she crafts a heart-shaped ice sculpture in A Canterlot Wedding - Part 1. Putting her hat on at the wedding. Putting her hat on at the wedding. Applejack wears a light brown Stetson hat almost constantly during her waking hours. In Sisterhooves Social, Rarity is able to trick Sweetie Belle into thinking she is Applejack by wearing the Stetson hat while her body is clad in mud. Applejack retrieves her hat out of nowhere and stealthily dons it during a wedding ceremony in A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2, and in The Mysterious Mare Do Well, she is the only "Mare Do Well" to keep her hat on in the final scene. In My Little Pony The Movie, when air bubbles appear on the Mane Six' heads after they get trapped underwater, Applejack's hat appears perched on top of her bubble. In Somepony to Watch Over Me, it is revealed that the Apple family home has a closet full of Stetson hats, along with pink bows for Apple Bloom. Aside from this, three other means for Applejack's hat acquisition have been depicted in the show: In Hot Minute with Applejack, Applejack claims she won her hat bobbing for apples at the Ponyville Fair. In Made in Manehattan, Applejack's hat becomes damaged from all of the work put into restoring the park. At the end of the episode, Rarity drops the damaged hat into a trashcan and buys Applejack an identical hat from a nearby street vendor. In My Little Pony Best Gift Ever, Applejack's hat is identified as one that Bright Mac gave her. Stubbornness and giving in "I ain't budgin'." โ€” Applejack Hat vs horn. Hat vs horn. Applejack can be headstrong and unyielding in her views. She refuses to resolve her differences with Rarity for most of Twilight Sparkle's sleepover in Look Before You Sleep, and in The Last Roundup, she steadfastly rebuffs her friends' efforts to learn what happened at the Canterlot rodeo competition. In Over a Barrel, when Braeburn attempts to seek compromise with Little Strongheart to resolve the conflict between Appleloosa and the buffalo tribe, Applejack interrupts and insists that the settler ponies are in the right. Applejack repeatedly refuses Twilight's offer for help with harvesting apples in Applebuck Season, though after fainting from exhaustion and recognizing the trouble brought on by her behavior, she graciously welcomes the assistance. In The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, when the Flim Flam brothers appear on track to win a cider-making contest that would grant them control of Sweet Apple Acres, Applejack gladly accepts her friends' offer to help. In Bats!, Applejack insists on removing the vampire fruit bats from her orchard and roundly rejects Fluttershy's plan to grant them a portion of it. However, after the friends' attempt at an alternate solution ends up turning Fluttershy into a bat herself, Applejack relents and allots a section of apple trees for the bats. Empathy and care Applejack acting motherly to in . Applejack acting motherly to a tree in Over a Barrel. Applejack is sympathetic and attentive to the needs of others. When Fluttershy is frightened by the steep slope of the mountain in Dragonshy, Applejack offers to lead her along a shallower trail. She is the first to notice Twilight Sparkle's glum countenance on the train in A Canterlot Wedding - Part 1, and she is the only one to apologize for not listening to her in A Canterlot Wedding - Part 2. In Sleepless in Ponyville, Applejack is the only pony to ask Scootaloo about the nervousness she exhibits en route to the second campsite. Applejack pulls Rainbow Dash by her tail to stop her from acting rashly in Friendship is Magic, part 1, Friendship is Magic, part 2, The Ticket Master, Dragonshy, The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, and The Crystal Empire - Part 2. In Princess Twilight Sparkle - Part 1, Applejack comforts Twilight with the assurance that the Mane Six are connected through the Elements of Harmony even if they are physically distant. Though ultimately misguided, Applejack suggests that Twilight return to Ponyville for her safety in Princess Twilight Sparkle - Part 2. Applejack can be overprotective, especially of Apple Bloom. In Bridle Gossip, Applejack continually "protects" Apple Bloom from Zecora on account of her false assumptions about the zebra. She calls off a delivery errand and baby-proofs Sweet Apple Acres in order to protect Apple Bloom in Somepony to Watch Over Me. In Fame and Misfortune, Applejack takes care of ponies wanting to live on the farmstead and be part of the Apple family, despite the work and stress it places on the actual family members. Honesty "Applejack, who reassured me when I was in doubt, represents the spirit of... honesty!" โ€” Twilight Sparkle Applejack tells Twilight to let go. Applejack tells Twilight to let go. Applejack represents the element of honesty; she first demonstrates the trait in Friendship is Magic, part 2 when Twilight trusts her instruction to let go of a cliff edge and ends up safely caught by Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy. Applejack is initially accepting of Flim and Flam's placebo tonic in Leap of Faith, though when Silver Shill shares how her behavior taught him that "sometimes honesty isn't the best policy", she decides to take a hard stance against the brothers' false claims. In The Return of Harmony Part 1, Discord dismays Applejack with a false vision of her friendships dissolving and suggests lying to herself to relieve the pain. This leads her to lie compulsively until Twilight Sparkle reverts the effect in The Return of Harmony Part 2 with a spell that reminds Applejack of her true self. Applejack demonstrates an honest work ethic throughout the series; in terms of truth-telling, her adherence is more casual in the early seasons. In Party of One, she falsely claims that the barn at Sweet Apple Acres is undergoing construction in order to convince Pinkie Pie not to enter. In Spike at Your Service, Applejack arranges and carries out a ruse to trick Spike into believing that he saved her life. In The Last Roundup, she repeats the false claim that she had no other reason to move to Dodge Junction than wanting to pick cherries, although she later keeps her Pinkie promise to tell the full story "at breakfast" by avoiding the meal altogether. Applejack's values of honesty are explored in detail in Where the Apple Lies. When she and Big McIntosh were younger, they had conflicting ideas on how to run Sweet Apple Acres. She tries to make an arrangement with Filthy Rich where he sells Apple family cider in his store, but when the arrangement goes south and threatens to sever all business ties between the Apple and Rich families, Applejack tells one lie after another in order to keep their families' relations stable. Her lies quickly spiral out of control, however, and Applejack eventually confesses to everyone involved. After this experience, she learns to value being honest. The episode The Perfect Pear reveals that Applejack inherited her strong values of honesty from her father Bright Mac. In My Little Pony: Friends Forever Issue #23, Applejack's personal beliefs on honesty are directly connected to her Elements of Harmony, making her physically incapable of lying.
