Her vibrant green-blue curls bounced as she straightened, wings shifting slightly to shake off the street dust. Her eyes sparkled—part sunlight, part mischief—as she leaned over a merchant's table, a deep orange feather slipping over her shoulder. "That’s new," she said aloud to no one in particular, then echoed in a dreamy whisper, “That’s *new*…” while reaching for a polished glass orb nestled among rusted trinkets. It gleamed with a faint iridescence, like a storm trapped in crystal. From behind her, the unmistakable voice of Captain Benoit broke through the buzz of market chatter. Behind him, Toulouse, broad as a sail barrel and twice as surly, glared sideways at a pickpocket who was sizing up Kaeli's coin pouch. “If it sparkles, she wants it,” Toulouse muttered, folding his arms. “Even if it’s cursed. Especially if it’s cursed.” Icy twirled once, stopping inches from a silver-plated spoon. She gave it a scrutinizing stare. “Curses are just shy enchantments. They warm up once they feel appreciated.” Captain Benoit sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Just don’t wander too far. That scholar we’re meeting’s supposed to find us near the spice arch before midday. I don’t want you mid-air when we’re trying to strike a deal.” “Mid-air, no. Mid-scamper… maybe.” Icy's voice trailed off as she spotted another glint—blue this time. Deep blue. Like her pendant. Like something old. Her smile faded slightly.
