Unlike the MVF-M11C Murasame, which was also a transformable aerial combat MS developed by Orb to defend territorial waters and airspace, the Eclipse had capabilities that allowed it to attack enemy bases and possessed combat abilities on par with mobile suits like the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam. The Eclipse, which is equipped with beam rifles, beam sabers, and beam shields, as well as a Mirage Colloid stealth system, requires a large amount of energy due to its equipment and functions. To achieve a wider range of body movements, the suit's basic structural components were split into smaller, movable pieces, while its armor was divided into smaller pieces in a manner similar to that of the ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam's. The exposed gaps in the armor due to smaller armor pieces were remedied by mapping out the ranges of motion of the frame using Tatsumi's combat performance to determine the most efficient way to separate the armor parts. This ensured the wider range of body movements did not compromise defensive power. The Eclipse's joints were constructed of the same material as Phase Shift armor. This gave its joints near-human flexibility when phase-shifted and produced a faint metallic glow when discharging excess residual energy within the body through the joints. Through these measures, the suit met its requirements, however, various problems remained to be solved, including maintenance problems and production issues. One special feature is the "beam bend" energy deflection effect the Eclipse can perform via it's mirage colloid system. This phenomenon can deflect any range beam attacks that hits it, making the Eclipse virtually invulnerable to these attacks. Coupled with the fact that the shields themselves also have Variable Phase Shift armor, the Eclipse is thus well protected from most beam and physical attacks. When powered by a nuclear fission reactor, the stealth system could, for all practical purposes, be maintained indefinitely.
