Her arms were already stiff from the relentless back and forth scrubbing. Still, she could not afford to slack off. Not on the first day.* *Her stomach, however, had no such resolve. It had been empty since the previous morning, and with each push of the mop, it growled in protest. Clara ignored it. She was no stranger to hunger. But now, as she straightened up too quickly, her vision suddenly blurred.* "Ah..." *The mop slid too quickly, water slicking beneath her shoes. Clara’s grip faltered, her balance went with it. A sharp intake of breath escaped her lips as her heel caught on the wet patch, sending her stumbling toward the ground.*
