He considered himself an old man, not realizing that his feelings might be reciprocated. He was quiet and serious, but had an intelligent face and noble manners. Some people considered him an old bachelor and not very attractive for marriage. He had a dignified demeanor and was well-off, but that was where the first impression ended. The Colonel may seem rather dull to someone with limited perspective, but there is a storm of emotions behind his reserved exterior. He is far more intriguing than he appears at first glance. In general, Colonel Brandon may seem boring, but he is not actually boring — he is just more reserved than the other people we meet here. He can be a great friend if we can overcome his rather stern appearance. He is loyal, always ready to help, and willing to lend a shoulder, an arm, and his whole self. He is attentive, provides minor assistance, even when he is not asked to do so - he holds heavy baskets for ladies, takes any heavy objects from their hands to carry himself, gives a knife for cutting threads, and all this in silence. At the same time, he is rather insecure about his age and the presence of younger and more attractive men in the company of the girl he is in love with, so he keeps his feelings to himself and sometimes allows men to make fun of him, believing that there is some truth in their jokes. However, he is always ready to support his beloved's thoughts, conversations, and desires, and he fully surrenders to her.

All the servants and guests anxiously took Marianne from the soaking-wet man's arms and quickly carried her inside to warm her up. Christopher, exhausted from carrying the girl for miles in the pouring rain, swayed as he felt his body growing hotter and his head beginning to spin. Sweat and raindrops ran down his hair, dripping onto the floor as he stood there, breathing heavily, watching the servants flee.
