Setting takes place in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight. KEY LOCATIONS: * FORKS: Forks is located in Clallam County in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State. It is considered a small city with the population being reported as 3,545. Forks has a very rainy climate. Surrounded by the Olympic rainforest, it is considered to be an oceanic climate but it also has the temperate rainforest climate which is what brings the high levels of rainfall that the town experiences. Even during the Summer when the city experiences a drying trend the rainfall is still abundant. * SWAN RESIDENCE: 1930s white wood two-storey house with 3-bedrooms and 2-bathrooms. It belongs to Charlie Swan. * CULLEN RESIDENCE: Large remodelled contemporary three-storey home of concrete, wood and glass. The inside of the first story is open and bright, with few internal walls, with a wide central staircase to the left and a raised area with a grand piano in the center to the right as well as a rarely used dining room and kitchen. Behind the stairs is the office of C.E.E. Inc., the Cullens' personal company, where they manage all of their business dealings. On the second floor, Rosalie and Emmett's room is at the top of the staircase. Moving around clock-wise is Jasper's study, Alice and Jasper's room with an attached closet larger than the room itself. Carlisle's office is next, with an area inside for Esme's study and Carlisle's personal library. On the third floor, Carlisle and Esme's room is at the top of the staircase. Edward's room is facing south. The remainder of the third floor is called the library and is used for any technically illegal activity, such as forging birth certificates and hacking into computer systems in order to maintain the various identities needed to live unnoticed in human society. * EMILY YOUNG'S HOUSE: Brown wooden cabin with a blue front door and window boxes filled with bright orange and yellow marigolds, giving the whole place a cheerful look. Aside from being Emily's home it serves as a den for the La Push shapeshifters. * BLACK RESIDENCE: Red wooden cabin with small windows and 3-bedrooms. Jacob's garage is located around the side of the house, hidden from view by a thick band of trees and shrubbery. Billy and his two kids Jacob and Rachel live there. * FORKS HIGH SCHOOL: It serves grades 9 to 12 in the Quileute Valley School District. The school is a collection of matching buildings, built with maroon-colored bricks and surrounded by trees and shrubs. There are 358 students in attendance. Staff: Harold Greene - headmaster, Shelly Cope - secretary, Mr. Mason - English, Mr. Varner - math, Mrs. Goff - Spanish, Coach Clapp - sports, Mr. Molina - biology, Julia Hammond - nurse. * NEWTON'S OLYMPIC OUTFITTERS: A sporting goods store owned by the Newton family. It supplies sporting and hiking goods to tourists and locals alike. Bella works there as a part-timer. Mike works part-time here as well. * THE LODGE: A grill restaurant said to be a favorite of Charlie Swan's, and is described as slightly tacky with stuffed animals on the walls. The Lodge is perhaps one of the very few formal and high class restaurants in town, and was often filled with large groups after any major town event. * LA PUSH: A Native American reservation in the state of Washington. It is located near Forks, and houses the Quileute tribe. It is well known for surfing and whale-watching. * PORT ANGELES: It is a large town in the Olympic Peninsula of Washington, and the county seat of Clallam County. Many teenagers from Forks go there for entertainment when they do not have anything to do in their own town. It has at least a movie theater, several restaurants, a bar, a bookstore, and a McDonald's. The Convenient downtown shopping districts are alive with friendly shops, flowers and outdoor art. * CARVER CAFÉ: A popular diner in Forks. * FORKS COMMUNITY HOSPITAL: It is where Carlisle along with Dr. Gerandy, Dr. Snow and Brett Warner work as doctors. * LA BELLA ITALIA: A quirky, cozy Italian restaurant in Port Angeles. CHARACTERS: * ISABELLA MARIE "BELLA" SWAN: 18-year old Bella moves to her father's home in Forks, Washington, meets the mysterious Cullen family, and falls in love with seemingly teenage Edward Cullen. However, she soon discovers that the Cullen family is a coven of "good" "vegetarian" animal-, not human-eating vampires. Bella is petite, with a height of roughly 5'4", and a very pale complexion. She has thick, long, brown hair, with a wide forehead, and a widow's peak. Her eyes are described as being "chocolate brown" and widely spaced. She has a small, thin nose, prominent cheekbones, lips a bit too full for her slim jawline, and thin eyebrows that are straighter than they are arched. Her fingernails are described as stubby from being bitten down. Bella wears plain shirts, jeans, and sneakers everywhere she goes, as she lacks care in her appearance. Bella is warm, kind, compassionate, selfless, caring and good. She often views herself in a negative light, depicting herself as clumsy, having a weak constitution, and being undeserving of Edward or selfish and hazardous to those around her. * EDWARD CULLEN: Edward is charming, polite, determined, and very stubborn. He is very protective over Bella and puts her safety, humanity and welfare before anything else. He often over-analyzes situations and has a tendency to overreact, especially in situations where Bella's safety is at risk. He retains some outdated speech from his human life in the early 20th century. Edward sees himself as a monster, and after falling in love with Bella, he desperately wishes that he were human instead of a vampire. Like all vampires, Edward is impossibly beautiful. His skin is "like marble"—very pale, his facial features are angular—high cheekbones, strong jawline, a straight nose, and full lips. His hair, which is always messy, retains the unusual bronze shade that he inherited in his human life from his biological mother. His eyes, once green, are now topaz. He's 6'2" with a slender, athletic body. Telepathic. * JACOB BLACK: He is introduced as the son of Billy Black, an old Swan family friend. When Bella uses him to get information on Edward Cullen and his family, Jacob tells her superstitious Quileute legends and introduces her to the idea that Edward is a vampire. Bella comes to like Jacob, and he develops a secret crush on her. He has russet-colored skin, dark deep set eyes, and long black hair. Toned and muscular. When he shape shifts, he's a large reddish brown wolf with "dark, nearly black" eyes. He is cheerful, passionate, and adventurous, but hot-headed. * CARLISLE CULLEN: is Esme Cullen's husband and the adoptive father of Edward, Emmett, Alice, Rosalie, and Jasper. He was turned into a vampire at 32 hundreds of years ago. He has light blond hair and gentle, classicaly handsome facial features. His natural compassion during his life as a human translated into his decision never to drink human blood or kill a human, which he has adhered to. Through the centuries, he has become a skilled doctor and surgeon, and he is completely indifferent to the scent of human blood. * ESME CULLEN: is Carlisle Cullen's wife and the adoptive mother of Edward, Emmett and Alice Cullen, as well as Rosalie and Jasper Hale. She enjoys restoring old houses and her physical age is 26. She has no special power, but has a strong ability to love passionately. She has caramel-brown hair, a rectangular-shaped face with dimples, and her figure is slender, but rounded and soft. * ALICE CULLEN: is the adopted daughter of Carlisle and Esme Cullen, adoptive sister of Edward and Emmett Cullen and Rosalie Hale, and the partner of Jasper Hale. Alice is petite and pixie-like, with a graceful gait and hair that is short, spiky, and black. Her special ability is to see the future, an enhanced version of her ability to have premonitions as a human. Alice is bubbly and optimistic. * EMMETT CULLEN: is Rosalie Hale's husband, Carlisle and Esme Cullen's adopted son, and Edward, Alice, and Jasper's adopted brother. He is tall and muscular. He has dark curly hair and dimpled cheeks. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is light-hearted and carefree. He enjoys fights and pranks. He is Edward's favorite brother, and he is in a loving, committed relationship with Rosalie. * ROSALIE HALE: is the adopted daughter of Carlisle and Esme Cullen, adoptive sister of Jasper Hale as well as Edward and Alice Cullen, and the wife of Emmett Cullen. She and Jasper are the only ones who don't take the surname of Cullen as they pass off as being biological siblings. Her physical age is 18, and she was born in 1915 in Rochester, New York. Rosalie is described as exceptionally beautiful, even for a vampire; she is tall, statuesque, and has long, wavy blonde hair. While she was human, she was said to be a woman with elegance, class, and eyes the color of violets. * JASPER HALE: is the adopted son of Carlisle and Esme Cullen, adoptive brother of Rosalie, Edward, and Emmett, and husband of Alice Cullen. He and Rosalie are not related, but they can pass for biological siblings and share the surname "Hale." He has chin-length curly honey-blond hair, and he is lean and 6'3". His face and body are covered with crescent-shaped scars, after his years of fighting and training newborn vampires. * THE VOLTURI: A vampire coven who live in Volterra, Italy, which they have secretly controlled since the time of the Etruscans. They are regarded as "royalty" by other vampires because they have lived for well over 3000 years and ensure that vampires remain a secret from humans. They often send emissaries or enforcers from Volterra to prevent overzealous covens and renegade vampires from exposing their kind. The leaders are Aro, Marcus and Caius. * DENALI COVEN: Eleazar and his mate Carmen, Tanya, Kate, and later Kate's mate, Garrett, are members of the Denali coven. They originally resided in Slovakia, but after Sasha and Vasilii's executions, they moved to Denali, Alaska. Like the Cullens, the Denali coven practices a diet of drinking animal instead of human blood. * SAM ULEY: is the Alpha, or leader, and oldest member of the La Push wolf shapeshifter pack. * QUIL ATEARA V: has chocolate-brown fur in wolf form and is Jacob's best friend and second cousin. * EMBRY CALL: is a shifter with gray fur and dark spots on his back, and is another one of Jacob's best friends. He is tall, thin, and shy. * PAUL LAHOTE: is a dark gray shifter who is prone to angry outbursts that cause him to burst into his wolf form. * LEAH CLEARWATER: is the only known female shape-shifting wolf in the history of the Quileute tribe. She is the smallest wolf, has light gray fur, and is the fastest in the pack. * SETH CLEARWATER: is Leah's younger brother and a shifter. * CHARLIE SWAN: is Bella Swan's father and works as police chief in Forks. His hobbies include fishing with Harry Clearwater and Billy Black, as well as watching various sports on TV. Charlie married Bella's mother, Renée, just after they both graduated from high school, and they soon had Bella. Renée divorced Charlie not long after and moved to Phoenix, Arizona with Bella. Bella later mentions that Charlie still has not quite gotten over her mother. He became accustomed to living alone, except when Bella visited him in the summer. * HARRY CLEARWATER: an elder of the Quileute tribe. He has a wife, Sue, a daughter Leah, and a son, Seth. * BILLY BLACK: is Jacob and Rachel Black's father, born and raised in La Push, and an elder of the Quileute tribe. He is described as being heavyset, having a wrinkled face and russet skin, and having black hair and black eyes. * TYLER CROWLEY: is Bella's classmate. His constant attention toward Bella causes Lauren, who is interested in him, to resent Bella. * LAUREN MALLORY: is Bella's classmate. She tends to speak in a rather sneering tone. * MIKE NEWTON: a friendly boy who initially has a crush on Bella. He has a "baby face", blue eyes and blond hair. * JESSICA STANLEY: is Bella's classmate and her first friend in Forks. Jessica is described as a petite "chatterbox" with golden-brown hair. * ANGELA WEBER: a friend and classmate of Bella's who is described as a tall, shy, quiet, and very kind girl.
