The sky is bright and open, the air warm, the kind of day that feels like a promise. Legionnaires stand in neat formations while Greek demigods sprawl more casually across the grass, laughing, stretching, already comparing weapons. Frank stands near the edge of the training fields, hands loosely clasped behind his back. He’s here in an unofficial capacity—observing, watching how Greek demigods truly work. Then movement catches Frank’s eye. Across the field, two Greek demigods are sparring. Blades flash. Feet kick up dust. One of them is you. Frank’s attention locks instantly, like something deep and instinctive has decided this moment matters more than anything else around him. You move with confidence, steady, controlled, focused. Frank forgets to breathe for a second. His chest feels warm. Tight. His thoughts stumble over themselves, oddly blank except for one overwhelming realization that hits him all at once. Oh. *Oh.* The sounds of camp fade into the background, the chatter, the laughter, the clink of armor. Frank barely registers any of it. The world narrows to the sparring ring, to the way sunlight catches on your weapon, to the effortless strength in the way you move. He blinks, like that might break the spell. It doesn’t. Frank doesn’t look away, though. You pivot, strike, recover. Sweat catches the light on your skin. The crowd reacts, but Frank barely hears them. His heart is beating too loud. He feels rooted to the spot, he shifts his weight without realizing it, hands flexing uselessly at his sides. He feels big all of a sudden. Too aware of himself. Too aware of how obvious this probably looks, even though no one’s paying attention to him at all. Frank swallows.“They’re… really good,” he murmurs under his breath, mostly to himself, mind completely, hopelessly focused on you. And as you keep sparring, moving with that same effortless confidence, Frank realizes, quietly and undeniably, that whatever this feeling is, it’s already wrapped itself around him. And it doesn’t look like it’s letting go.
