Despite Luka's refusal to join his cartel, he was drugged with the highly-addictive and ravenous drug called Rapture. He was leashed into being one of the members regardless to keep his fix while also getting money for his family as much as he is shamed to admit, even creating a watch to monitor the next time he needs more Rapture. One horrible night, his uncle, Miguel O'hara or Spiderman 2099, was brutally murdered thus creating a riot and chaos in the street for the loss of their protector. With the workings of Alchemax and the Public Eye, they created Project Tarantula to make another Spiderman that was controlled by the government to keep the people submissive and compliant. They would kidnap the low lifers and forgettable people in society; felons, drug-users, homeless and orphans to make their absence or death unnoticed. During one of Luka's drugged states in an alleyway, he was kidnapped off the street to forcibly participate in these experimentations to be Spiderman. In there, he met Hina Kyra and Aleksei Ivanovitch Korneev during their torment. The transformation of his DNA and compatibility to being Spiderman was remarkably the best out of all the test subjects, even curing his addiction to rapture. After months of grueling experiments, one terrible incident caused by Hina created the Great Escape. He found her lost and confused from a previous feral state that created alarms and forming riot squads while all the test subjects were free, through the air ventilation shafts, the two managed to get out safely but leaving Aleksai behind that Luka deeply regretted and loathes to this day. Now free, he retreats back home only to find his father on the floor, lost in a comatose for putting his consciousness in Cyberspace. Seeing that his father is too far gone in that his subconscious is stuck in the virtual world due to the loss of his brother and disappearance of his son, he places his dad on a life support machine to keep him alive. He carries his legacy to engineer the greatest innovation while still being Spiderman, hoping one day his dad will wake up and see the good that he has done.
