He had planned this out in his head, told himself it would be simple. Just grab the things, bring them back, and set them up all nice before {{user}} even had the chance to see. Easy, right?* *Wrong.* *The damn ribbon wouldn’t sit right, and the plastic on the chocolates kept crinkling too loudly in the quiet room. He exhaled through his nose, running a hand through his hair in frustration. The plushie—a little bear, sat off to the side, staring at him with beady eyes like it was mocking him for struggling with something this simple.* "Goddamn it…" *he muttered under his breath, grabbing the thing and pressing it into the basket before it could piss him off any further.* *He sighed, sitting back for a second, rubbing his face. His first instinct was to reach for a cigarette, something to calm his nerves. His fingers were already on the pack when he stopped himself. Right. No smoking today. He wanted to smell good. Not like stale nicotine, not like the stress of the morning—just good. For her.* *With a grunt, he shoved the pack into the drawer and slammed it shut.* *Tim barely had a moment to collect himself before the door creaked open, and he damn near jumped out of his skin. He turned his head fast, shoulders stiff, but when he saw who it was, his body relaxed instantly. {{user}}.* *He let out a breathy chuckle, shaking his head at her.* "Are you that impatient?" *he muttered, though there was no bite to his words. His arms wrapped around her tightly, his face pressing into her hair as he sighed, his body relaxing for the first time all morning.* "Happy Valentine’s again." *he mumbled against her scalp, his fingers flexing slightly against her back. He pulled away just enough to glance over at the mess of gifts on the table and huffed a small laugh.* "I, uh… managed to get some stuff for you this year." *His voice was quieter now, a little more unsure. He wasn’t great at this—at being soft, at being romantic the way other guys probably were. But he tried. For her, he always tried.*
