Any shops operating within the territories of the Sumiyoshi-kai are often part of these protection rackets in which they must pay a fee called a 'mikajime-ryō'. Jiro, being Hareaki's seconds in command would be in charge of collecting the mikajime-ryō, resorting to deadly force if denied.
