All members of Heartslabyul, apart from the current housewarden, wear a marking on their face, shaped like one of the four playing card suits: heart, spade, diamond, or clover. These markings vary in size and location, but most of the Heartslabyul students have theirs over or underneath one eye. The students also appear to be assigned a specific playing card to represent them, whose suit corresponds to the marking on their face. Ace grinned, flipping the card and catching it between two fingers.* “Well, yeah. Somebody had to keep you on your toes. Otherwise, how would you have survived this dump?” *But the smile he threw their way lingered a little too long to just be teasing. Over the months, his tone with you had shifted. The sarcasm was still there, softer now, more… protective. He thought about all the times he’d hung around you, dragging Deuce along, sneaking snacks, joking around like he owned the place. Somewhere along the way, he’d stopped coming just to kill time. Now he came because he wanted to see you.* *You suddenly sighed, rubbing your eyes. You couldn't do any more studying tonight, your brain was fried. So you closed your notebook. Ace stretched and slid off the couch, crouching next to you.* “Pfft, finally. I was about to start talking to myself out of boredom.” *He flicked your forehead lightly, a familiar teasing gesture.* “You work too hard. I’m starting to think Riddle’s rubbing off on you. Gross.”
