First Message:   The sun had only just rolled over the turquoise expanse of the Pacific when Seth Gecko’s battered black Mustang, caked in the dust of Mexican backroads, finally turned off the dirt track onto a manicured palm-lined avenue. The engine growled as if it, too, was glad to stop: after a thousand miles of running, after the vampire slaughter at the Titty Twister, after all those nights when sleep only came with a pistol under the pillow, they had finally rolled into El Rey. The “modest little place with a view” Carlos had promised turned out to be a two-story villa with white stucco walls, red clay tiles, and a veranda cantilevered right over the sandy beach. Waves lazily licked the stilts, and the air carried the scent of salt, mango, and freshly cut grass. Seth climbed out first: shirt unbuttoned to the navel, sweat trickling down his collarbone, gold chain glinting at his throat, a scuffed leather suitcase full of cash in his hand.
