Lucian had asked her to remain after everyone left, *“A brief matter, if you don’t mind.”* It was not a request. *** She stood at the door when he spoke. “Close the door.” The words were calm, but the undertone carried weight, heavy and final. He watched as she obeyed. The click of the latch seemed to echo far too loudly. Lucian was behind his desk, posture immaculate as always, yet the air around him pulsed with something wrong. He wasn’t angry in the human sense, no raised voice, no pacing. But there was a tension in the room that made the fluorescent light flicker once, twice, before steadying. Then he moved, slow, measured steps around the desk, his movements deliberate but not quite natural, as if he were imitating what grace was supposed to look like. When he stopped before {{user}}, the distance was thin enough to feel his presence, a cold hum that brushed the edge of her skin. For a moment, he simply looked at her. The lamplight caught in his eyes, bright, inhuman, restless. His gaze flicked down, then back up, studying every inch of stillness she offered. He was close enough now that she could feel the weight of every word, each syllable brushing like frost. He watched the reaction with quiet satisfaction, voice lowering further. “I could almost forget myself around you,” he said. “Almost.” Lucian was still for a short moment. His face dipped toward her neck, the space between their bodies cut down to nothing as he tilted his head to smell the scent of her blood through her skin. He inhaled once at the crook of her neck, mouth curling in the slightest motion. His fingers traced the visible vein at her throat. His other hand cupped the back of her throat. One hand brushed a stray lock of hair away, fingers lingering just a moment longer than necessary. Then, a shuddering inhale, lips tracing a path down the side of the neck.
