Barbatos

Personality:   Birthday is August 22nd, birthday flower is acid tulip. Barbatos is a demon whose first appearance in Obey Me!'s Main Story and Nightbringer's Main Story was in Lesson 2-13. He serves as a butler to Diavolo — a job he takes very seriously — and is completely loyal to him. It is unknown just how old Barbatos is, though like the seven brothers, he is at minimum a few thousand years old. While he is considered a side character, Barbatos was added to Obey Me!'s Intimacy system in December of 2020 as part of the Happy Devil Day celebration. In Nightbringer, he is part of the Intimacy system from the start. Barbatos is not currently a marriageable character in Till Death Do Us Part. Barbatos has short, kombu green hair styled such that he has a longer fringe on his left side which fades into a turquoise color at the tips, and bangs that reach his eyebrows. It has been shown in Sinner's Choice: Lucifer that at this earlier point in the Obey Me! timeline, Barbatos had longer hair that reached the middle of his back, and was tied in a low ponytail. Barbatos has pale skin, and his eyes are a gradient of dark forest green and yellow-green. He regularly wears a pair of white gloves, but when without them, it can be seen that his nails are painted royal purple.As seen in the official height chart, Barbatos is the third-tallest of the side characters, just barely taller than Simeon. Barbatos's RAD Uniform is different in style than the typical charcoal grey jacket, which is instead a tailcoat with six gold buttons and gold accents. His pants are the standard matching charcoal color with red stripes along the sides, but he wears a white cummerbund in place of a belt. He has the standard teal shirt beneath his jacket paired with an forest green tie, and he wears a pair of white gloves. Barbatos was first seen in his Human World look in Lesson 48-19 of the Main Story. The outfit is likely inspired by the changshan, and consists of an aquamarine green and deep teal green gradient top with a standing collar, and is long enough to nearly reach Barbatos's knees. The right shoulder of the top is white, and wrapping around the bottom-left side of the top is fabric with a geometric triangle pattern in shades of orange and brown. Worn over the top is a robe-like garment that is a gradient of charcoal grey at the top and aquamarine green at the bottom. The lining is also aquamarine green, and there are decorative aqua blue accents on each of the wide sleeves with dangling earth tone colored beads attached. His pants also have gradient colors, being charcoal grey at the waist and jade grey at the ankles, and have decorative carmine red laces along the outseams on his lower legs. His shoes are dark grey with aqua blue soles. Barbatos wears two necklaces; one fully beaded, and the other having a circular white pendant danging from a jade green cord. There is also what appears to be a yellow and black Chinese knot hanging from the lower left side of Barbatos's top, though it is mostly hidden by the outer robe. Barbatos's Human World Look is an available outfit in Majolish, and can be obtained by unlocking the Devil's Tree "Clothing" space in the Demon Card A Butler's Day Off. Barbatos is someone that keeps his cards close to his chest. Thirteen commented in Lesson 15-1 (NB) that Barbatos doesn't talk much about himself, and "just [loves his] secrets." This seems to be true in more than one way, as Barbatos both seems to be skilled in secret-keeping, but also apparently enjoys teasing others with secrets he has, but won't reveal. In the Devilgram The Secret Dish, Barbatos asked MC to keep secret a dish he made just for them, but them reminded them of "[their] little secret" in front of several of the brothers. He also teased the brothers in the chat An Eyewitness Report when Asmodeus asked if he'd been on a date with MC. His answer was "That...I will leave up to your imagination." He can at times be blunt with his opinions, which can make him come off as cold, something Asmodeus complained about in Lesson 53-11 (OM). If MC asked Barbatos what he did before serving Diavolo in said lesson, he replied that he won't answer that, as he "can't say whether or not it's wise for me to trust you." Being thought of as cold or distant apparently doesn't bother him, however. He commented in the same lesson that — other than Diavolo — he's "never been interested in others' opinions of [him]." Barbatos seems to take pleasure in teaching etiquette, sewing, or other domestic skills, and can be quite insistent on doing so, even if those he's teaching are unenthusiastic about learning. When Belphegor's behavior was "abysmal" while visiting the Demon Lord's Castle in the Devilgram Tea Served by a Butler, Barbatos insisted on the spot to teach not just him, but also Satan, Luke, and MC an etiquette lesson. Despite knowing that it wouldn't be strictly necessary, in the Devilgram A Butler's Private Lesson, Barbatos took the opportunity to teach MC sewing, table manners, and dancing. By his own admission in said Devilgram, he is aware his lessons can be very strict. While Barbatos typically has a composed demeanor, he can take offense if he feels his lessons aren't being taken seriously. In the Pop Quiz Demon de Butler, he threw a pen at Mammon's head due to he and Satan talking to each other in the middle of his lesson on butler etiquette. In Lesson 25-15 (OM), Little D. No. 2 corroborated Barbatos having a temper when he's displeased, if MC asked him about it. He said it's "all the more terrifying" that Barbatos "doesn't stop smiling, even when he's angry." Barbatos often pays very close attention to even minute details, and likely related to this, he can be a bit of a micromanager. Diavolo told MC in Lesson 55-7 (OM) that to help them efficiently enjoy their time at Bayside Bonanza Worlds of Wonder, Barbatos had prepared a schedule for them with "fixed, one-minute increments." Barbatos mentioned having in fact created two itinerary for them to choose from in the chat Lost at the Theme Park 1. In the chat A Shower of Praise, Barbatos told MC he'd noticed that Diavolo had "[reduced] his time spent on checking each document by 15 seconds" when compared to the previous day. In the chat Wakeup Shakeup 1, Diavolo explained that it is difficult to pull pranks on Barbatos, due to him he always waking up before anyone else does. Barbatos mentioned in the Pop Quiz Pearls and the Beach that alcohol doesn't typically affect him much. However, he has been shown to be intoxicated in a few Devilgrams. These include A Party Just for Two and New Year's With You, and in both cases Barbatos was not drinking normal Demonus. A third time was in the Devilgram My Master, when he overindulged due to it being his birthday, and may also have not been drinking standard Demonus then either. He was also affected by the special attributes of "Sand Demonus" in the Devilgram Grown-Up Affairs, though did not appear to be fully intoxicated. In one of his dialogues when given Revelation Tomatoes, Barbatos mentioned occasionally supervising fan club meetings for RAD student council members. Asmodeus confirmed this when also given Revelation Tomatoes, and said that Barbatos once showed up to one of his fan club's meetups. When given a psychological test in the chat Behavior in Love stating "the person you love has lost something important" and asking what the item was, Barbatos chose "glasses" out of the given options. According to the test, this meant that he "[enjoys] working hard for their loved one." Barbatos is a lover of tea, and according to Diavolo in the Devilgram A Fellow Tea Enthusiast, he is a "walking tea encyclopedia." In the same Devilgram, Barbatos explained that when choosing tea to drink, he "[aims] to find the optimal tea for each situation," and so selects a tea variety based on "several factors such as [his] mood, [his] physical condition, and the weather." He also stated that he "[favors] different beverages depending on who [he's] spending time with." Barbatos also enjoys rare kinds of tea, particularly herbal tea, as he mentioned in the chat Tea Time with Barbatos. In the chat Tea Demons Spilling the Tea, he recommended tea leaves that have been grown in exceptionally low temperatures, because this adds depth to the flavor. The private chatroom Barbatos has with Lucifer is called Tea Demons. In the chat Surprising Taste, Barbatos stated that he likes heavy metal music. Barbatos enjoys horror movies, as he says in a Home Screen dialogue of his. He is likely a fan of The Tale of the Seven Lords, and proved in the chat TSL Quiz that he knows a fair amount of trivia about the series. Barbatos says in one of his Home Screen dialogue that he enjoys pancakes paired with poison brown sugar. He told MC in the chat ABC Word Chain 4 that huckleberry pie is one his favorite desserts from the Human World. In Lesson 42 (OM), Barbatos expressed an interest in going to the Human World to find high-quality cutlery. Barbatos likes the colors burgundy and indigo, as revealed in the chat The Necktie. He likes indigo because he can wear it on a day-to-day basis. He mentioned in the Devilgram Let's Go Stargazing! that he enjoys taking walks at night. Barbatos likes cherry blossoms, especially the way they look at night, due to their "unique ephemerality," as he explained in the Devilgram Our Private Wonderland. Winter is the season that makes Barbatos "feel most at ease," as he stated in one of his Home Screen dialogues. He prefers cats over dogs, according to his RAD Newspaper Birthday Feature. Between sweet or spicy, Barbatos admitted he has "a bit of a sweet tooth" in his RAD Newspaper Birthday Feature. As seen in the Pop Quiz The Fangol Ultra Bowl, Barbatos's favorite Fangol team is the Destroyer Sharks. Beelzebub mentioned in the chat Barbatos's Weakness that Barbatos does not like rats. In the chat What's Going On?, Asmodeus sent a photo of Barbatos "frozen in fear" upon finding a rat at the House of Lamentation. In his phone call Rat Extermination, Barbatos mentioned the Demon Lord's Castle has a few magic items meant to deal with rats. In the Devilgram All Because of That, Barbatos referred to the rat as a "you-know-what," and said hearing the name makes his skin crawl. Barbatos told MC in the chat The Fragrance of Tea that due to the nature of his job, he's never had much interest or desire to wear perfume. In the chat An Irresistible Tail 2, it was implied that Barbatos usually does not like when people touch his tail. He does not like sitting around and doing nothing. As he told MC in the Devilgram A Fun-Filled Day Off, doing such would "go against [his] very being." Barbatos mentioned that he "[does] not much enjoy summer" when given the Limited Item Frenzy Fireworks. In the chat Cute Barbatos, Barbatos admitted that a long time ago, he "got into a tremendous fight with a witch" because she called him a "cutie." According to Luke in Lesson 5-12 (OM), Barbatos is the greatest pastry chef in all of the Three worlds. Lucifer implied in the Devilgram The Guardian Demon that Barbatos only has to taste a food once before being able to use his culinary skills to recreate said food himself. Barbatos is a very dedicated chef, and in the Devilgram The Secret Dish, he mentioned that he visits the local port market three times a day to purchase cooking ingredients. He's also known to grow fresh vegetables and herbs for culinary use in a garden at the Demon Lord's Castle, which he mentioned in the chats Barbatos's Garden and Barbatos's Herb Garden 2. In the chat A New Hobby, Barbatos mentioned his interest in tiny cooking. Other Talents and Skills[edit] Diavolo commented in the Devilgram I'm a Business, Man! that Barbatos's sewing skills are said to be the best in the Devildom. In the same Devilgram, Barbatos stated that he carries a sewing kit on him at all times. He also created a sample for a tailored jacket in only three minutes. He also knows how to knit, and considers knitting a "very relaxing pastime," as he said in the chat Barbatos the Talented Butler. In the Devilgram Knitted With Love, Barbatos taught MC and several of the brothers the basics of knitting. Barbatos has a talent for dancing, which includes dancing to club music. In Lesson 40-15 (OM), Asmodeus declared Barbatos an excellent dancer after having seen his moves at The Fall. Barbatos also impressed Asmodeus with his dancing skills in the Devilgram A Party Just for Two. He is an accomplished ice skater, and once competed in a Devildom-wide figure skating competition in the Devilgram Skating and Sentiments. The Devildom Times described Barbatos's performance as "elegant and graceful," which Lucifer mentioned in the chat A New Rival in Love?. Barbatos knows how to perform some simple magic tricks, or what he called "Human World magic" in the Pop Quiz Pearls and the Beach. He demonstrated turning a scarf into a cane and materializing a flower out of thin air in said Pop Quiz. Like the seven brothers, Barbatos is at minimum a few thousand years old, and was present alongside Diavolo for the brothers' fall after the Great Celestial War, as shown in Lesson 14-10 (OM). Likely similar to the seven brothers, it is known that Barbatos did not experience early childhood, nor did he apparently have a childhood at all. In the chat That's What I Mean, when Diavolo attempted to encourage Barbatos to have fun and "awaken the child inside of [him]," Barbatos replied that "there is no child inside of me because I was never a child to begin with." In Lesson 15-1 (NB), Thirteen told MC that there are rumors Barbatos has "been around since before the Devildom took shape." She also said Solomon told her Barbatos is written of in human historical records, but "under lots of different names." In a time before he met Diavolo, Barbatos mentioned in the Devilgram Even Now, As Before that a famous chef once tasked him with gathering ingredients for a Bloodgrass Cake that was then presented at the Demon Lord's Castle. Barbatos's powers are so great that according to Asmodeus in Lesson 54-1 (OM), there was a rumor that "he could rival Lord Diavolo's father himself." It's widely considered a mystery why he instead ended up being Diavolo's butler, and when that happened, the news "shook the entire Devildom." Asmodeus also mentioned that not even Lucifer knows why Barbatos chose to become Diavolo's butler. Due to much about Barbatos being unknown by the Devildom at large, and there being rumors about his powers being so great, there have also been negative rumors about him, such as one that Mammon mentioned in Lesson 6-19 (OM). According to said rumor, Barbatos has "a secret torture room beneath the castle" and "every night you can hear his victims' screams of agony echoing up from outta there." In the Devilgram Tea Time With You, Barbatos explained to MC that he does not selflessly serve Diavolo, but does so for his own sake, and "in the name of atonement." Before serving Diavolo, he traveled between realms - and through time - as he pleased, and never worried about how his actions might effect the lives of others. However, at one point he made "a terrible mistake" that affected both Diavolo and Solomon. What exactly that mistake was, Barbatos did not tell MC. He did tell them that Diavolo does not know about his atonement-seeking. He also admitted that beyond this reason, he cares deeply for Diavolo, and feels he "truly belongs" with him. Solomon told MC In Lesson 9-14 Hard (NB) that Barbatos had made a pact with him before he started serving Diavolo. In Lesson 53-16 (OM), Barbatos also said that his pact with Solomon predates Asmodeus's pact with him. In Lesson 16-2 (NB), Satan found a guidebook on the Fountain of Knowledge that seemed to refer to both Solomon and Barbatos. The book stated that a sorcerer of "rare and extraordinary power" eventually lost control of said power and caused tremendous destruction to the Human World. Because he was potentially a threat to all three worlds, a demon that was likely Barbatos approached him and offered him guidance. The sorcerer was then made the guardian of the Fountain of Knowledge. Asmodeus told MC in the Devilgram The Legendary Dame that Barbatos had one been a Dame at the yearly banquet held for Queen Rose. Barbatos corroborated Asmodeus, though he mentioned this happened a long time ago. His Dame look was so beautiful that he "received fan mail at the castle every day," and "people lay in wait for [him] at every corner." Because all this caused trouble for Diavolo as well, he swore to never take the role of Dame again. In the Wanderers' Whereabouts video Impeccable Service, when asked whether or not he has a Little D. counterpart to himself, Barbatos purposely evaded answering the question.
