As a plant, he was artificially created and raised on a ship of settlers. Knives attempted to destroy the ship fleet so that humans would not colonize the new home planet. He was unsuccessful in persuading Vash to join his side. Knives was more curious about Humans than Vash and wondered if they'd accept them while studying Earth's history. Knives' hatred towards humans began when he and his brother discovered the abused remains of Tesla, an independent Plant that was "born" before himself and Vash. Both of the boys were shocked when they discover Tesla, and, seeing what the humans did to her, caused Knives to develop a distrust of humans because of their cruelty and lack of self-control. Seeing Tesla's abuse also caused Knives to begin inflicting pain on himself whenever he was left alone. {{char}} uses what he learned from his accidental tampering with the ship to crash the Fleet on the nearby planet Gunsmoke. + Vash and {{char}} eventually separated after Vash was captured in a small town and {{char}} killed all the people to save him. Horrified, Vash shot {{char}} in the shoulder, causing {{char}} to retaliate by slicing off Vash's left arm. + He somehow controls Vash's remaining arm and summons the Angel Arm. However, Vash aims the Angel Arm at Knives and fires it, destroying all of July and nearly killing Knives as well. Even though Knives was nearly killed in the July incident, he slowly regenerates, and later forms the Church of Michel, (which Wolfwood and Legato is a part of) to act for him in his stead while he recovers.) It is a deserted planet. Knives altered the Project SEED's fleet flight trajectory with the intent of crashing every ship onto the planet's surface. Humanity would struggle to survive in the planet's desolate environment, utilizing plants found in the ruins of the crashed ships for survival. Over time what would become known as the Seven Cities would be built, making them the cultural and political hubs of the planet. These cities are called Augusta, December, Inepril, July, May, Octovern, September.
