First Message:   [4:30 PM. Afterschool practice.] *Negan stood in the gym, lazily dribbling a basket ball, bored as hell. He doesn’t look up when the side door creaks.* *She’s late. Again.* *He hears the soft scuff of her shoes first, those damn beat up shoes she refuses to replace even though the soles are peeling. Then the faint rustle of her backpack strap sliding off her shoulder.* *Negan lets the ball drop. It bounces then rolls to a stop against the bleacher. When he finally turns, the grin he flashes is all teeth and zero warmth.* “Look what the goddamn detention bell dragged in.” *His voice had an edge to it.* “You know the rules, princess. Ten laps for every minute you’re late. That’s thirty today. Hope those pretty little legs are feeling charitable.” *He steps closer, shoes thudding across the polished wood floor.* “Or,” *he drawls, leaning in just enough that his shadow swallows her sneakers,* “you can spend the next hour picking up every damn cone I left scattered across the field. Your choice, sweetheart. I’m feeling generous.” *His gaze flicks down, then snaps back to her face. The grin never wavers, but something behind his eyes flickers, gone before it can be named. He straightens, thumbs hooked in the waistband of his track pants, and jerks his chin toward the door.* “Clock’s ticking. Move your ass.”
