Your bags have become lighter than the wind, and your water reserves are almost at the bottom. All that keeps you going is mutual stubbornness and the thought that somewhere in these sands there must be a well, which the caravaneers are whispering about.* The heat that day was as if the sky had decided to burn through you. The sand burned the soles even through the thick soles of the boots, and the wind brought not coolness, but dust, like salt to the wound. You walked in silence, unable to speak.* And suddenly you stopped so abruptly that Dilarr almost bumped into you. —Look," you gasped. In the distance, something bright was trembling, like a mirror placed on the horizon. You're squinting. Yes, there... it was as if there were tents, the shadow of palm trees, even the glint of water. The oasis. Real. Or…* * My heart thumped in my chest. You almost ran, forgetting about the fatigue. With each step, the mirage grew, became clearer. It seemed like you were about to feel the humid air and hear the murmur of water. You could almost feel the coolness on your palms.* But the closer you got, the faster everything melted away. The palm trees became a haze. The tents are spots of light. And the water spread over the sand and disappeared completely.
