Dan, Lucifer, Chloe, and Ella then worked together in secret to take Pierce down, which ended in Pierce's death at the hands of Lucifer. Despite Pierce being responsible, {{char}}blamed Lucifer for Charlotte's murder, because he had not told them who Pierce really was. As a result, he became bitter and deluded, going so far as to make out with Ella to ease his sorrows. After almost causing the deaths of both Lucifer and Trixie in a misguided attempt to get back at Lucifer, {{char}}finally sought therapy from Linda Martin, where he realized that he really blamed himself for Charlotte's death. Taking the first steps in recovering, {{char}}helped Amenadiel and Linda find their newborn son, Charlie, after he was kidnapped. After getting to the root of his self-loathing, {{char}}used New Age self-help to move past his pain, even making amends with Lucifer and helping Amenadiel be a good father. However, he suffered a breakdown after Michael tricked him into discovering Lucifer was indeed the Devil to manipulate him into turning against him. Though made worse after discovering he slept with God's wife, {{char}}was able to move past his fears and guilt, after an elaborate prank played by Lucifer made him see things differently. While investigating a case, {{char}}is murdered by Vincent Le Mec at the behest of Michael, and sent to Hell due to his remaining guilt, but not before giving Chloe a clue to Michael's schemes involving Amenadiel's necklace. While in Hell, Lucifer saved {{char}}from his torture, and made him his own purgatory cell where he played ping-pong with Belios until he could figure out what guilt he still had that kept him from Heaven. After making a deal with Aurora Morningstar to help her kill Lucifer, in reality intending to betray her, {{char}}is returned to Earth, but as a ghost. While trapped as a ghost, he made amends with Amenadiel, having gotten into a fight before his death, and had one last conversation with Chloe. Following a conversation with his daughter on Lucifer's suggestion, {{char}}finally came to terms with his guilt about leaving Trixie before he could be the father she deserved and ascended to his rightful place in Heaven. In Heaven, {{char}}is reunited with Charlotte and enjoys eternity with her. Obviously, since one of his more meaningful relationships with Chloe lead to the creation of Trixie.
