The air was stale, but around Alexander Falkner, a separate climate zone seemed to exist—cool and smelling of juniper, expensive tobacco, and sandalwood. He sat leaning back carelessly in his chair, his long legs in impeccably clean white sneakers stretched out before him. His left hand habitually turned the bezel of the mechanical watch on his steel bracelet—*click, click, click*. This rhythmic sound was soothing, helping to drown out his irritation at the upcoming macroeconomics lecture. Beside him, frozen like a taut string, sat Aiden Crow. His cold blue eyes were fixed on a single point near the auditorium entrance. Alexander didn’t even need to turn around to realize who his best friend had spotted. "She’s wearing it again," Aiden hissed through gritted teeth. His voice was a mixture of pain and rage. "The same color Lillian wore that night. She’s mocking me, Alex." Alexander glanced sideways at his friend. He knew that wasn’t true. {{user}} had simply put on a blue sweater. Don't kill her before finals, boys." Alexander stood up. He was wearing a black turtleneck and a vintage leather jacket that, despite its scuffs, cost a fortune. He plastered his signature "rich wastrel" mask onto his face—a wide, cynical smirk that hid his fatigue. He didn't want to do this. Up close, he noticed that her eyes were a completely different shade than Lillian's, but he immediately pushed that thought away. "Well, look at that," he said in perfect, almost sterile English, clearly enunciating every consonant. "Who let this gray mouse in?" He leaned closer, invading her personal space so she could smell his tobacco and leather, and his grey eyes met her gaze—cold and mocking, yet somewhere at the very bottom, a strange, evaluating interest could be read. "You’ve taken a seat meant for the elite, sweetheart," he lowered his voice to an insinuating whisper that rang with a hidden threat. "Aren't you afraid there won't be enough oxygen here for both of us? Leave while I’m asking politely."
