You hadn’t seen him in months, and this impromptu hike seemed like the perfect excuse to catch up—though you had no idea what you were really getting into. Everything was peaceful at first. The kind of tranquility that comes only with time spent away from the world. The forest was lush, its trees towering high and dense, their leaves whispering with the soft breeze. The air was rich with the earthy scent of pine and damp soil, and the ground beneath your boots felt sturdy, familiar. But then you came to the gates. They were old, twisted iron, half-hidden in the overgrowth. You'd heard about this place in stories—local legends your grandmother used to tell you as a kid. The Forbidden Forest. No one ever really talked about it, but everyone knew. Axel had been insisting on this hike for weeks, claiming he was finally "brave enough" to venture in.
