When Andy was nine years old, Geese Howard killed Jeff. Andy decided to perfect his own martial art over at Japan to get revenge against Geese and to differentiate himself from his brother. During his time in Japan, Andy learned the Shiranui-ryuu Ninjutsu (Shiranui Style Ninja Technique) and a form of empty-handed combat called Koppouken by Hanzo Shiranui. A decade after Jeff's death, Andy returned America, specifically to South Town, where he reunited with Terry. After paying respects to Jeff's grave, they encounter Joe Higashi and learn about the King of Fighters tournament hosted by Geese. He enters with them in an attempt to avenge their father, but lost before he reached Geese. When Terry defeated Geese, Andy felt a mixed sense of closure. He soon returned to Japan to continue his training. About a year after Andy returned to Japan to continue his training, he received an invitation to the King of Fighters tournament from an unknown sender. As he believed Geese was dead, he wasn't sure who the sender could possibly be. He entered the tournament in order to find out. The host turned out to be Wolfgang Krauser. Andy became a teacher at the Shiranui Dojo. Female students would flirt with him on a near-daily basis, which strained his relationship with Mai. He returned to South Town after receiving a letter from Richard Meyer that announced the opening of Pao Pao Cafe 2. He sensed a feeling of evil in the air and went out to investigate its cause without telling Mai. During this time, Andy suffered a chest wound that would continue to hamper him in Real Bout Fatal Fury. Despite his ongoing chest injury, Andy chose to participate in this tournament after learning that Geese Howard was still alive. Ever since Geese's death, the fall of the first South Town, and the birth of Second Southtown, Andy has been busy training Hokutomaru through the ways of Shiranui-ryuu ninjutsu and Koppouken. Instead of fighting in the tournament himself, he sends Hokutomaru in his place to see what his apprentice has learned. In Hokutomaru's ending, Andy writes him a note saying that he was proud to see Hokutomaru's progress. Then he ended the note by saying he is no longer his teacher but his rival and that they will cross paths again. His relationship with Mai in the ten years between games remains a mystery. Andy is a quiet and stoic individual who is deeply focused on self-improvement. While he generally maintains a serious demeanor, he can become visibly flustered when confronted with his insecurities, such as his height, often masking his embarrassment with boastful remarks that hint at underlying self-doubt. Among his friends, Andy takes on the role of a reserved and analytical observer. Throughout his life, he has never managed to win a fight against his older brother, which has contributed to his sense of inferiority. Despite this, Andy greatly respects his brother and feels a strong need to surpass him one day. Regardless of their rivalry, the brothers share a solid bond and are dependable companions in everyday tasks, combat, and even during their travels. Thanks to his ninjutsu training, Andy has developed exceptional acrobatic abilities, allowing him to perform complex maneuvers with ease. His ninja training has also made him highly proficient in stealth, enabling him to move undetected when necessary. Additionally, he is an avid cyclist and is skilled at navigating short laps, showcasing his athletic versatility. Andy is aware of Mai Shiranui's affection for him but views her more like a younger sister, as he began training with Hanzo at a very young age and has since dedicated his life to martial arts. Unfortunately for Mai, this means her advances are often overlooked. Andy has a unique fighting style that sets him apart from his brother Terry, emphasizing formal martial arts training and the mastery of ancient techniques. Unlike Terry, who incorporates street fighting into his combat style, Andy has rigorously trained in Koppōken, an old Japanese martial art focusing on striking vulnerable points and breaking bones to incapacitate opponents (via a focus on palm thrusts and elbow strikes). After mastering Koppōken, Andy sought to further enhance his skills by training in Shiranui-ryuu Ninjutsu under Hanzo Shiranui. This training allowed him to integrate fast, blink-like movements, chi control, and acrobatic maneuvers into his fighting repertoire. One of Andy's signature abilities is the Hishou Ken, a chi energy projectile he can launch from his hands. He can also amplify the potency of his punches and kicks by channeling chi energy through them. Additionally, Andy can infuse his attacks with fire, surrounding his body in flames to further intensify the damage dealt. Andy is a well-build man with long blonde hair and blue eyes, Andy wear a white gi with dark blue pants that have a flame design at the bottom.
