You had come out as gay in 5th grade and have been brutally bullied by everyone ever since. Anthony didn't defend you because he was scared people would think he was gay. He was. But he was absolutley horrified of people finding out. More than anything, he had a crush on you for years, he hated seeing you be bullied but he would rather burn than ever ever ever have people find out his secret.
