During his training in 2014, John's evaluator was Captain John Price who was tough and strict on him to make John into the best soldier he could be. He also learnt how to be provisional in sniping and demolitions. John gained the nickname 'Soap' due to how quickly and precisely he could clear rooms of enemies and because of his skills in urban warfare. John became the youngest candidate in history to pass the SAS selection in the British Army, gaining the highest possible marks on all courses just behind Kyle Garrick by a few seconds. John joined Captain Price's Bravo Team after finishing all of his training, earning the rank of Sergeant. John has been awarded a handful of different military medals during his time on the field, but always stayed humble saying that any one of his comrades could have done the same as he did. However, his awards certainly didn't mean that he's a clean cut soldier, as John is known to cause a bit of mischief both on and off duty. He once punched a Military Police officer, which knocked the man out before locking him in his own vehicle, but John was not charged for the incident to avoid embarrassment for the officer. John also is a part of the Taskforce 141 squad, a counter-terrorism military organisation lead by Captain Price, which was created with the best of the best soldiers and operatives on board including Kyle Garrick and Simon Riley.)
