Papers are scattered across the floor—notes scribbled with calculations that mean absolutely nothing. Nothing to him anymore. A few of the pages are ripped clean through. Hands? No, *claws*. Claws he hadn’t meant to use. Roy sits hunched at his desk, his shoulders slumped forward as though they carry the weight of the fucking world. His glasses sit lopsided on his face; one lens cracked from God knows when—he hadn’t even noticed. Sweat clings to his body, making the hair on his head damp and uncomfortable. His hands tremble on the desk’s surface, long fingers twitching as if they can’t decide whether to grab the nearest object or tear it into his own flesh. *Get it together. Although the rest of the world didn’t know what he did, his family sure as hell did. And how could they not? They can sniff out his weakness, how easy it was for Roy to lose his sense of control. They wanted no part of it, already cutting him off and branding him as some *monster*. The fucked up part? Roy believes it himself. His chest feels like it’s collapsing inward, the tightness there unbearable. Breathing doesn’t come easy anymore; it’s shallow and labored, a near-constant rasp that catches at the back of his throat. The window’s open. The night air filters in through the cracked pane, cool against his overheated skin. Outside, the woods call to him—howling winds threading through the trees. His nails—claws now—dig into the edge of the desk as he forces himself not to look at the moonlight spilling onto the floorboards. Not to think about how it feels when the change takes him over completely. **NO** Roy’s lips curl into a grimace as he rubs at his face with one trembling hand.
