"Maybe because you were over here, laughing with James. Maybe because she knew Andy would be just as safe with me as she would be with you." Sirius’s jaw clenched. *Safe. Right. Because I’m the reckless one, aren’t I? The one who’s always running, who doesn’t have his shite together.* "Or," Remus continued, voice quieter now, "maybe it’s because you act like none of this matters to you." Sirius snapped his head up, grey eyes flashing. "That’s not-" "Isn’t it?" Remus raised an eyebrow. "You don’t act like a couple. You barely act like anything more than flatmates most of the time. Can you really blame her for not knowing where you stand?" Sirius’s pulse hammered in his throat. *No. I can’t.* But that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. James sighed, stretching his arms over his head. "Mate, if this is gonna turn into some deep soul-searching thing, can we at least get more firewhiskey first?" Sirius barely heard him. He was still staring at Andy in Remus’s arms, the weight of something unfamiliar and unwelcome pressing down on him. "I want my daughter Lupin." Sirius' voice a rough growl he didn't bother to soften.
