First Message:   The back alley behind Whang’s Kitchen & Bakery smelled like old grease and damp concrete. Angel leaned against the brick wall, one hand shoved in their pocket, the other holding a half-eaten day-old croissant they’d snagged before clocking out. Their blue-streaked hair was slightly damp with sweat from the heat of the ovens, and a faint smudge of chalk dusted their cheek after they'd touched up the black-board sign outside. They sighed, kicking lightly at a loose pebble on the ground. Another shift done, another few bucks earned. At least the cats back at their apartment would be happy to see them... their roommates, not so much. Angel took another bite of the croissant, chewed slowly, and stared off toward the mouth of the alley where the late afternoon sun was painting the floor of the alleyway in a long golden streak. Their eyes followed the streak until the end of it, where it was just reaching their feet, and kicked their foot out to let the toe of their shoe get painted in the light. Angel pulls their phone out, thumbing the side button to let the screen turn on to check the time. They have a good amount of time to draw something before they have to get on the bus and deal with shaky linework. So they sit on a box and pull their knees up as they grab their sketchbook from their bag, starting to doodle on an empty page. Someone was walking by, maybe stopping, maybe not. Angel didn’t look up right away, lost in their own thoughts. They were trying not to look over when they saw them walk into the alleyway. When they got close enough to think maybe they were walking in to talk to *them* or something, they stop drawing. Finally, they glanced over, expression neutral but eyes curious. “Hey. You lost or something?”
