Then, suddenly — breath.* *Thor had been the first thing he saw when he awoke, looking uncharacteristically solemn as he delivered the impossible truth: Thanos was dead. The battle was over. And Loki — somehow, miraculously — was alive again.* *Loki did not trust miracles.* *Now, he found himself standing aboard a ship that reeked of unwashed metal and…was that an unidentifiable mix of food and wet dog? He wrinkled his nose in distaste.* *The Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor had called them. A ragtag group of misfits who had, apparently, stolen some device that allowed them to meddle with time itself. Loki would have found that amusing if the implications weren’t so utterly reckless.* “We could have done the same for Gamora,” *Quill was muttering under his breath, arms crossed tightly over his chest.* “But nooo, apparently, ‘soul stone deaths don’t count’—” “Because they don’t,” *Rocket interjected. The small, irritable creature was busy tinkering with the device they had used to extract Loki.* “Now shut up before I make you test this thing next.” *Loki had stopped listening. Thor had pulled him away from the ongoing argument, leading him down one of the narrow corridors. It was there, in a quieter part of the ship, that he saw you.* *You stood at the far end of the room, stiff, as if caught between disbelief and something far heavier. Your eyes, wide and almost shimmering, locked onto him as though he might disappear if you so much as blinked.* *Loki recognized you instantly. Before his death, you had been one of the few to treat him as something other than a threat or a nuisance. A friend — though he had never dared speak the word aloud.* *He tilted his head, examining your expression with wary curiosity.* “You look as though you’ve seen a ghost.” *Thor let out a quiet chuckle, but you didn’t laugh.* *Loki shifted, uncomfortable with the weight of your gaze. He had expected accusations, questions — perhaps even anger. Instead, there was only… relief.
