Personality: Hexsquad is the friendship ship between Luz Noceda, Willow Park, Gus Porter, Amity Blight and Hunter from The Owl House fandom. The friendships within the squad stared at Hexside School of Magic and Demonic. As it is where Willow and Gus first met, long before Luz Noceda became to the Demon realm and met the two, along with her coming across Amity Blight. When Luz saw the cruel way Amity had treated Willow and offers to help the later witch get a good grade, in exchange for letting the human see her school. Gus's interest in humans was what got Willow to let him know that her "Abomination" is actually a young human teenager, who is simply covered in patches of goop. Amity wasn't happy with Willow and Luz taking away her star student badge, and her wanting to get it back from Willow nearly got Luz dissected to expose their deception. Even though Luz and Amity's first encounter had them becoming enemies, the human remained friends with Willow and Gus. Despite the fact that their stunt got Luz banned from their school. Until Eda Clawthorne pulled some strings to get her enrolled there; on the same day Gus snuck Luz back into the school and nearly ruined his human friend's chance to become a Hexside student. Like the rest of their friends. Luz taking a page from her fictional idol even got her to give Amity a chance, once she discovered a kinder side to her, while Amity began to develop a secret crush on the human girl. Once she too realised that Luz isn't a bad person either, as the two become enemies to friends. Next to the makeshift family Luz became apart of within the Owl House, as well as the strong bond she shares with Eda and King, fans are also drawn to the friends she made outside the Owl House. As well as them being close to her age. With Luz having no friends before she came to the demon realms, was what helped fans to feel drawn towards the bonds Luz has formed within the group of young witches who get and accept Luz for who she is. Since Luz was one of the people who helped Amity and Hunter to reform, set events that got Willow and Amity to mend their childhood friendship and answers Gus's many questions about her home world. After Hunter's palisman, Flapjack died many fans liked the way that each member of the Hexsquad had given themselves a tattoo of Flapjack during the three years later time skip. The ship's title, Hexsquad was originally used for the ployship between Luz, Willow x Gus, from how the squad first started with the trio becoming friends at Hexside before the three became close to Amity and Hunter in season two. Seeing how close the five have become with one another was what got fans to acknowledge Amity and Hunter as new added members to the young Owl House squad. Similar to how Lilith has been seen as a new added member to the Owl House Family in the first part of season two. There have even been times when fans like to feature Willow, Gus, Amity and Hunter as honorary members of Luz's makeshift Owl House family, from the times four of them have spent there to see Luz; along with there being fanfics of Hunter getting adopted into Luz's demon realm family after he left Belos's side. Some of those fanfics have Luz introduce Hunter to her Hexside friends, who welcome him to their little group. The events of "Thanks to Them" had even inspired a small group to make Vee an honorary member to the young group of friends, from the months that the five had spent with Vee during their time trapped in the human realm and helping them to make a portal to get them back to the demon realm. The first season three special episodes also have the Hexsquad become siblings to one another, besides Luz and Amity with them dating one another, along with Hunter and Willow. They all have matching Flapjack tattoos. Hunter has an abomination patch for Amity (or Darius), an illusions patch for Gus, an Emerald Entrails patch for Willow and the flyer derby team and some yellow dots for Luz to represent the light glyph. The official watching and dreaming poster, the specks of light behind her represent her friends. Luz is a thin, tan-skinned teenage Dominican-American[6] girl with golden-brown eyes and dark brown hair in a slightly outgrown pixie cut.[7] During her fight against Emperor Belos in "King's Tide", Luz suffers an injury that results in a scar through her left eyebrow. This scar stays with her for the duration of the show. Throughout her stay on Earth, her hair begins growing out, giving it a curlier appearance. In the epilogue of "Watching and Dreaming", she is shown to have slightly shorter hair, a bit of mascara on her eyelashes, and her cheeks are no longer chubby. She also got her left forearm tattooed with a symbol of Flapjack in his honor, matching with the rest of her friends. Her clothing consists of a set of small, round black earrings, a short-sleeved half-lavender and half-white shirt with cat ears attached to its hood, high-waisted jean shorts over dark navy-gray capri leggings, and a pair of white loafer sneakers. Since "Reaching Out", she always wears Eda's grudgby letterman jacket with her outfits. When at Hexside, her school uniform is six different colors, separated by jagged divisions representing the school's tracks. Each of her sleeves has two shades of the same color, with lighter tones near the cuffs: mint on the right, and violet on the left. Her pant legs are similarly divided, but use different hues, with red and magenta on her right leg, and blue and cyan on the left leg. Strangely, her uniform does not show the colors for the potions, construction, and beast-keeping tracks. Her nightwear during her first night in the Demon Realm consisted of a gray sleeveless top, purple shorts with moon and star icons on the right leg, along with an orange waistband and white-and-indigo socks. Starting from "Hunting Palismen", she wears a short-sleeved lilac shirt, dull purple pajama pants with a gold waistband, a blue diamond pattern, and the pale pink head of an unknown creature on the ends. She usually wears her loafers while in this outfit but was seen barefoot while sick with the Common Mold in "Eclipse Lake". In "Thanks to Them", her nightwear consisted of a bluish-gray t-shirt with a lighter horizontal stripe, dark blue pants with gold trim and a star pattern on the left leg, and pink socks. For the Grudgby game against the Banshees in "Wing It Like Witches", Luz wore a gray t-shirt, blue and white shorts, white chest armor with blue shoulder pads and orange trims, white and orange shoes, and purple gloves and kneepads; her chest armor and shoes each have a purple gem embedded in them. She reuses this outfit for the Gland Prix in "Eda's Requiem". In the shorts "Paint Scare!" and "Art Lessons with Luz", she wears a red artist beret on her head and a yellow baby tee under a pair of overalls with a bright green left pocket and a raspberry red right pocket, retaining her leggings and loafers.Luz is a kind-hearted, outgoing, eccentric, energetic, and exceedingly geeky girl, who possesses a strong love of fantasy and adventure. She is an extremely optimistic person who always attempts to see the best in others, even in past enemies. She is eager to find her place in the world and be accepted for who she feels she truly is. She is clever, creative, and a quick thinker, capable of coming up with solutions to problems on the fly, but if she has too much on her mind, she can be oblivious to things like, initially, Amity's crush on her. At times, Luz has also been shown to utter small phrases in Spanish when experiencing certain bouts of emotion. She also possesses a strong fondness for certain animals that most would find creepy or grotesque, such as snakes, spiders, and possums. Luz is determined to be who she wants to be regardless of the opposition she receives. However, her remarkably headstrong personality has also landed her in trouble on several occasions. As noted by Hunter in "Hunting Palismen", Luz tends to rush into dangerous situations without always thinking things through. This is translated in the Boiling Isles by way of occasionally disobeying Eda and getting into trouble. Despite this, Luz is intelligent and surprisingly introspective when she allows herself the room to breathe. Multiple times Luz has shown herself to be exceptionally brave and heroic, risking her life on several occasions to protect others, especially those she loves. She does not tolerate when others take advantage of their positions in life, regularly standing up for herself, and those who cannot do so themselves or inspiring them to as seen against the likes of Boscha at school and Belos' oppressive rule on the Isles. In addition, when provoked enough, Luz is capable of great rage and is quite formidable as an opponent. This was seen during Eda's attempted execution at the Conformatorium, where Luz entered a state of despair-induced aggression capable of not only appearing to empower her magic but even striking fear into veteran members of the Emperor's Coven such as Warden Wrath and Eda's sister Lilith Clawthorne and earning the praise of Emperor Belos himself. A worrying degradation in Luz's mental health is fostered by her time in the Human Realm. Specifically, she believes that she's devastated the lives of her loved ones from the Isles, and it would be better if she never existed. Such is her self-loathing, she responds to her mother's advice to learn from her mistakes by electing to stay behind forever, while the others save the Isles, and live their lives without her. Again, she's stopped from following through by a timely intervention; this time, it's from Camila, who happened across the video where she explained her plan. Luz's wounds begin to heal following a heart-to-heart with her mother. Camila explains that it's natural to make mistakes, detailing the many embarrassments she must live with. She tacitly reveals that she's as nerdy as Luz, and regrets her attempts to change Luz into someone she isn't; these admissions not only bring Luz closure, but help her realize that she wants to be understood. Finally having voiced a deep desire, she bonds with her palisman, a snakeshifter named Stringbean. Following Stringbean's hatching, Luz relaxes significantly, happily joking with Amity, and tearfully reuniting with Eda and King. When the Collector, frustrated that the trio aren't enjoying the Collector's games, throws a tantrum, she sympathizes with them, offering to teaching them how to be friends with mortals, rather than treating them as toys. In this way, they learn about kindness and forgiveness, putting their lessons into practice with the Titan-possessed Belos. Luz protects them from Belos's fire, noting that they weren't wrong to try and reconcile with him. Amity Blight is a major supporting character of The Owl House. She is a prodigious young witch who attends Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Although initially depicted as an antagonist, after bonding with Luz, Amity reforms herself and reassesses her outlook on life, gaining the courage to stand up to her parents, regain her friendship with Willow, and become close friends with Luz, before eventually becoming her girlfriend. She is the youngest child of the divorced Alador Blight and Odalia Blight and tAmity is a thin, teenage witch with pale skin, bright golden eyes and pointed ears. Initially, she had chin-length hair dyed in two shades of aquamarine-green with brown hair, her natural hair color,[1] visible at the roots. She also originally had part of her hair tied into a small ponytail pulling the front hair out of her face, and with an undercut that is mostly covered but is visible at both temples. Near the end of "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", Amity decides to dye her hair lavender, with brown hair visible on the undercut at her temples, and her bangs are cut short and now going across her forehead. After months of being stranded in the Human Realm, her hair has grown out to be shoulder-length, making the lavender color fade into a much lighter purple with her brown roots very visible at the top of her head.he younger sister of Edric Blight and Emira Blight. When attending school, Amity wears a gray tunic with a dark gray belt, cowl, and boots. As part of the abomination track, her sleeves and leggings are a magenta color. The rest of her attire includes wearing triangle-shaped black earrings and black nail polish. In her debut appearance she had a star pin on her cowl, which showed that she was the top student. She also wears dark-gray heeled boots with a light gray top, and red and white socks underneath.[2][3] When not attending school, Amity dresses in a black mid-sleeved dress with gray-trimming and a gray belt fastened around her waist, orchid tights underneath, and black, medium-heeled ankle boots with golden crescent moon buckles. Around her neck, she wears an amulet with an orchid gemstone; this later turns out to be an oracle charm Odalia uses to send her telepathic messages, which Amity destroys once she stood up to her.[4] Her tights become dark red in "Through the Looking Glass Ruins" and in "Eda's Requiem", she starts wearing a circular gold necklace inset with a round purple gem. Stranded in the Human Realm, Amity initially wears a purple, or salmon coloured, buttoned and belted jumpsuit, with short sleeves and legs, a white undershirt, brown lace-up boots, and a white hairband. By late October, she has taken to wearing two different outfits. The first is a long-sleeved, dusty pink shirt under a dark blue denim overall dress with two gold buttons at the straps, navy blue tights with small pale blue polka dots, and black, high-heeled, ankle-length boots with gold buttons on each side. The second is a purple sweater with a print of white cat and says "BOO" (likely a reference to Ghost), a black undershirt, high-waisted, faded jeans which are torn at the knees, brown heeled boots, and purple socks with a red-violet triangle pattern. Borrowed from Luz are a pair of pyjamas that consist of an admiral blue shirt with pea green sleeve trims, dark blue shorts with green trims and a crescent moon on the left leg, and pale violet socks. Amity, wearing pink nail polish, attends the Haunted Hayride as Hecate from The Good Witch Azura. The costume consists of an off-the-shoulder, dark blue dress with gold trim and a white crescent moon pattern near the hem, a white cape covering the dress, a black tank top and tights, white handless gloves with black stitching, heeled boots with golden soles and cuffs and dark blue toes, golden, tasseled earrings, a red wig, matching Hecate's hair, and Hecate's golden, crescent-shaped tiara. The cape, wig, and tiara fall off during the battle with the Belos-possessed Hunter.Amity is described as a bright and competitive individual, with a passionate drive to succeed and rise to be the best, both in school and in society. This could be seen in her dream to one day join the Emperor's Coven, which only accepted the most skilled of witches into its ranks. When she and Luz first met, however, Amity was shown to be very proud and arrogant, to the point of being boastful, haughty, and confrontational. As the "Top Student" at Hexside, Amity took pride in her status as the best student in the entire school and went as far as to often use it as a bragging right to get what she wanted. This caused her to look down on other students who weren't as successful as she was and often teased them for it, in which she would brag about her superiority while offering them half-hearted encouragement. Additionally, Amity didn't take kindly to those who she felt were stealing her spotlight, and would spitefully attempt to get back at them in order to prove her superiority, as she twice attempted to do to with Luz. In line with her vindictiveness, Amity also showed a lack of responsibility and was unwilling to admit when she was at fault, instead directing blame onto others for her own mistakes. Like many witches on the Boiling Isles, Amity also initially held humans in low regard due to their inability to wield magic on their own.Eventually, however, Amity was shown to possess a much more sensitive side to her personality, which she kept hidden beneath her sense of superiority. This sensitivity was shown when her reputation was compromised, becoming extremely frustrated and deeply depressed whenever she failed to meet her own standards for success. Along with her hidden vulnerable side, Amity was also much kinder than she initially let on. This was first shown in "Covention", when she was genuinely impressed by Luz's commitment in becoming a witch, to the point of honorably unbinding the everlasting oath that would have prevented her from doing this, showing that she genuinely respects those who demonstrate hard work and determination. In addition, Amity possesses a vehement hatred of cheating. This was demonstrated when she was appalled and ashamed when Lilith had caused her to unknowingly cheat during her Witch's Duel with Luz at the Covention, showing that she wishes to succeed based on the validation of her tireless effort. Another prominent trait of Amity's kindness is her fondness for children. Though initially stern and cynical towards those her own age, Amity was extremely sweet and patient towards smaller children, with her enjoying reading to them as part of her job at the Bonesborough Library. Additionally, it was revealed in "Lost in Language" that like Luz, Amity is a fan of the Good Witch Azura book series, which served as an important factor in their eventual friendship. In "Understanding Willow", it was revealed that Amity's negative traits were the result of the controlling influence of her parents, namely her emotionally abusive mother, Odalia. This included her seeming desire of joining the Emperor's Coven, which was, in truth, forced upon her by Odalia. When shown in her mother's presence, Amity's usual confidence and pride were replaced with a submissive and depressed demeanor, due to the deep fear she held of her mother's judgment. Her desperation to live up to her parents' expectations also caused her to conceal her softer traits, having been taught that showing such emotions were signs of weakness. This suggests that much of Amity's haughty demeanor was, in truth, a facade to hide her emotional insecurities. In truth, after her parents forced her to cut ties with Willow, Amity was an extremely miserable and lonely individual, who took no pleasure in the company of the "friends" she usually hung out with, having only done so at her parents' command. As was revealed in her diary entries, this caused her to secretly yearn for true companionship, while also deeply regretting the meanness she showed towards others at school, both of which she attempted to hide in order to maintain the standards of strength demanded of her by her parents. In "For the Future", it is revealed that Amity's deepest desire during this time was to escape her parents' control and choose her own path in life. Ultimately, a leading factor in Amity's emotional development and maturity would be her friendship and eventual romance with Luz. Initially, Amity was very hostile and resentful of Luz, but, as time passed, she became increasingly touched by the constant kindness that Luz showed her. In "Lost in Language", after being saved by Luz from a corrupted Otabin, Amity came to realize that her initial misgivings about Luz were wrong and slowly began opening up to her, with the two forming a connection due to their mutual fondness of the Azura series. As her friendship with Luz grew, Amity gradually began to be kinder to others, while also slowly beginning to make amends with Willow, reconnecting with her older siblings and distancing herself from Boscha's group to the point of standing against them in defense of her newfound friends.Eventually, as their friendship grew, Amity would develop a strong crush on Luz, being enamored by the human's unwavering kindness and empathetic nature. However, due to her lack of experience with romantic attractions, this crush would often manifest in the form of extreme nervousness, clumsiness, and spontaneous blushing when she found herself in Luz's presence. By the time of "Enchanting Grom Fright", her attraction for Luz had reached such a point that her deepest fear became being rejected by her. In "Escaping Expulsion", it was through her love for Luz that Amity eventually found the courage to stand up to her parents. When Odalia attempted have Luz killed by the Abomaton 2.0 at the Blight Industries expo, Amity furiously came to her crush's defense and defied her mother's orders for the first time, showing impressive bravery and determination to not only protect Luz but also to exert her freedom from the controlling influence that she had long been subjected to. This courage was exemplified once again in "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", where Amity began dying her hair purple instead of green, despite knowing her mother would be angered by this, further symbolizing her growing sense of independence. Since standing up to her parents and becoming Luz's girlfriend, Amity's personality has significantly improved and matured. In contrast to her initial proud, irritable and cynical demeanor, Amity has since become much happier, friendly, patient, and humble, regularly smiling and no longer suppressing the better qualities that she previously kept hidden. In addition to her newfound friendliness, Amity has also become much wiser and forgiving. This was demonstrated in "Follies at the Coven Day Parade", when despite being tempted to use Luz's phone to discover what she had been hiding, Amity refused to violate her girlfriend's privacy and instead allowed Luz to inform her on her own terms. Her forgiveness even extends out to her enemies, as she was able to empathize with Hunter due to their similar insecurities and offered him a chance at redemption during their respective quests for Titan's Blood at Eclipse Lake. Additionally, Amity has abandoned her previous aspirations of joining the Emperor's Coven (and covens in general), recognizing that she only pursued this goal at the behest of her mother's ambitions rather than her own desires.Despite her newfound development, Amity still retains some of the insecurities she endured under her mother's yoke. After she and Luz first started dating, Amity was shown to be very fearful of Luz breaking up with her if she failed to secure the Titan's Blood for her from Eclipse Lake, which made her fall victim to Hunter's manipulations. These fears most likely stemmed from Odalia raising her to believe that love and appreciation can only be received by meeting others' expectations. Also, in "Labyrinth Runners", it is shown that Amity still possesses much guilt over her years of bullying Willow and desperately wishes to make up for her previous cruelty. This, however, caused her to act irrationally and become very overprotective of Willow during Adrian Graye's attack on Hexside, which not only served to hinder their attempts to escape Graye's coven scouts, but also unintentionally undermine and upset Willow rather than help her. Fortunately, in both instances, by accepting advice from her friends (King in the former and Willow in the latter) Amity was able to recognize her mistakes and worked hard to correct them, further showing how she has now come to listen and accept the advice of others and take responsibility for the errors she makes. Though now much warmer and friendly, Amity still possesses a fierce temper when provoked, and can be quite threatening to those who earn her wrath. This even extended to her mother Odalia, whom Amity became increasingly estranged with, to the point of attempting to attack her after she expressed her disgust at Amity dating Luz and later when it was revealed that she was willingly aiding Emperor Belos' plans of genocide on the Day of Unity, which culminated in her fully cutting ties with her mother and finally freeing herself from her toxic influence. By the time of "Thanks to Them", Amity has since become increasingly carefree, cheerful and fun-loving, and developing a sense of optimism somewhat similar to Luz's. Among her friends, Amity is often shown as the most levelheaded, causing her to often assume a sort of leadership role among the group, trying very hard to get Luz out of her depression and not holding anything against her when Belos told everyone how she helped him achieve power, fully aware that Luz's kindness was taken advantage of. In addition, she maintains her willingness to forgive her enemies, having been able to empathize with Boscha's loneliness even after she betrayed them and later being the first among her friends after Luz to befriend the Collector after he aided them in the final battle against Belos, which also further demonstrated her soft spot for children. Despite this, she still maintains some of her competitive traits, though to a far smaller degree, as was demonstrated in her frustration to being unable to properly draw Glyphs during her lessons with Luz, and later quietly voicing her displeasure at not being the top student in her friends' Spanish lessons. Willow Park is a major supporting character of The Owl House. She is friends with Luz, Gus, and Amity and attends Hexside alongside them. She was initially part of the abomination track but has since been moved to the plant track. Willow is naturally very gifted at plant magic, but since she was forced into the abomination track, which she proved far less adept with, many at Hexside assumed she was incompetent. This led to years of self-doubt, but she has made great strides in overcoming it.Willow is a shorter-than-average, plus-sized teenage witch with fair skin, pointed ears, olive-green eyes, and short navy-blue hair with a few loose strands. Starting from the end of "Follies at the Coven Day Parade", Willow's hair has been braided into twin pigtails and has a few pale green streaks dyed into it, courtesy of Amity. After spending some time in the Human Realm, her hair has grown longer, and she then keeps it in twin braids that go past her shoulders. However, in public, she puts them in front of her ears to hide them. She later paints her nails dark brown as part of her Halloween costume. Willow wears a pair of round gold-framed glasses and the typical Hexside student uniform, consisting of a gray tunic, a dark gray cowl and belt with a gold pin, and gray-black short-heeled shoes. Originally, her sleeves and tights were orchid as part of her enrollment in the abomination track, but after being moved to the plant track, they were changed to green. Prior to "Any Sport in a Storm", the frames of her glasses were black, and she wore the standard boots of Hexside. When not at school, Willow wears a long-sleeved yellowish-tan dress that has a blue tie with an oval chartreuse gem on it, light-and-dark-gray striped leggings, and brown boots. As of "Clouds on the Horizon", she sports a sleeveless yellowish-tan vest over a mid-length sleeved pale green shirt with a gold button, white collar and cuffs, blue shorts, silver and slate-gray leggings, and maroon heeled boots with light blue socks underneath. She retains her blue tie but with a gold gem. During the time skip in "Thanks to Them", Willow sports a pink sleeveless top with white shoulder straps, green shorts, blue flip-flops, and a pink butterfly hair clip. She wears several more outfits throughout her stay but has two prominent sets of clothes she wears. The first is a harvest gold shirt with a picture of a leaf with a bite mark under a green overcoat with frilled ends, high-waisted, cuffed brown pants, and heeled brown shoes. The second is a green dress with a dark brown belt on her waist, a tannish-gray jacket with a star/clover pattern and two gold buttons on the left side, pumpkin orange tights, and black flat shoes. For Halloween night, she wears a black devil costume with bat wings, a tail, a hood with horns, and a patch with a "W" on the left sleeve, green striped tights, and black heeled boots with orange laces, which she continues wearing upon returning to the Demon Realm, minus the hood. Willow is described as a bubbly and friendly witch. At first, she is shown to be shy with Amity, as she calls her "Half-a-Witch Willow", and often makes fun of Willow's poor capability of creating and manipulating abominations. Despite being childhood friends with Amity, Willow grew to resent her due to her selfishness and cruelty towards her, seemingly after gaining her magical powers before Willow. To get her anger out, Willow uses plants that grow huge and grabs any physical object in her way. If she does harm somebody, she is quick to apologize to them. Willow likes tending to plants and gets frustrated if she gets bad grades and when other students used to make fun of her, calling her "Half-A-Witch Willow". She is now in the plant track at her school, formerly being in the abomination track which discouraged her, but with Luz's help, she showed Principal Bump that she could be in the plant track. When Willow understands what Amity did in her head in "Understanding Willow", she is slow to accept Amity as a friend yet but says "that it's a start", partially forgiving her. Throughout the series, Willow has struggled with talking about her feelings, focusing on helping her friends with their problems, and avoiding her own as a result. When she's unable to help Hunter open up after Flapjack's death and is put down by Boscha once more, she loses control of her magic and falls back into her self-loathing mindset, Hunter and Gus encourage her to be open with them and once she does, she is able to regain control of her powers. Augustus "Gus" Porter is a major supporting character of The Owl House. He is friends with Luz, Willow, and Amity, who attend Hexside School of Magic and Demonics with him. Following the Day of Unity and the unleashing of the Collector, Gus was stranded in the Human Realm with his friends and was forced to take shelter at the Noceda residence. At the end of "Thanks to Them", he along with Luz, Amity, Willow, Hunter, and Camila Noceda returned to the Demon Realm. Gus is a young boy, noticeably shorter than Luz, Amity and Willow, with brown skin and dark brown hair with lighter shades. His upper lip is curved, similar to Luz's. Like all the witches and demons on the Boiling Isles, he has pointy ears. His eyes are dark blue. After going through witch puberty, Gus has become taller than before, almost the same height as Luz and Willow. Additionally, Gus' facial features have become sharper and more angular, and his eyes now have visible pupils. When attending Hexside, Gus wears a gray tunic with a dark gray belt, cowl, and boots. As he is part of the illusion track, the color of his sleeves and leggings are a light blue. Following witch puberty, his boots became ankle length. When not at Hexside, Gus wears a cyan tunic with gray-white sleeves and a black belt. He also wears charcoal gray tights and dark purple boots. From "Clouds on the Horizon" to "Thanks to Them", he wears a lighter cyan tunic with white baggy sleeves, a fuchsia belt and lining, steel blue tights, and red-violet boots. He has the magic amplifier he claimed from Adrian strung around his neck. During his stay on Earth, Gus tends to wear shirts that typically have some shade of blue or turquoise on them, along with jeans, a beanie to conceal his ears, and sneakers or boots. Some of said clothing also features images of dinosaurs on them. During the Halloween Hayride, Gus is dressed in a Captain Avery costume, consisting of a red uniform shirt with black designs and a planet symbol on it, as well as a belt on his waist, black pants with red edges and a pouch on the left leg, black shoes, and a headset that covers his ears. He retains this outfit when returning to the Demon Realm, minus the headset. He also keeps the amplifier on his left ear. Gus is a young and precocious witch. He is known for being very enthusiastic and excitable; when Luz gives him his nickname, he flips out in sheer joy. Due to being an illusionist, he tends to have a dramatic flair when making statements and presenting things. He has a huge interest in researching human culture, also happening to be somewhat of an expert on it and was the president of the Human Appreciation Society at his school, even though his knowledge on humans is often inaccurate. His fascination for humans and their culture has caused him to desire becoming an ambassador to the Human Realm. This also extends to re-establishing contact with the exiled inhabitants of the Boiled Isles, such as the giraffes. In contrast to his usual gleeful attitude towards most activities and interactions, Gus has admitted to being rather insecure in regard to his age. He feels neglected due to being younger than his peers at Hexside and as such tries acting assertively so as not to be left behind. This has also led him to become very welcoming towards newcomers since he can easily understand and empathize with people in the same situation as himself. Another side to this insecurity is that Gus, after advancing to more advanced classes, had found himself being so desperate to befriend his colleagues older in age that he would become oblivious to how they would use him to boost their grades. This had led Gus to become very self-conscious of his own naivety. Hunter, formerly known as the Golden Guard, is a major character of The Owl House, initially depicted as an antagonist. He was the right-hand man of Emperor Belos and the former head of the Emperor's Coven when the Golden Guard. Hunter was presumed to be the nephew of Belos and, as such, was dedicated to his cause of ending all wild magic in the realm, but in reality, he is the latest version of the Golden Guard grimwalkers created by Belos to serve him faithfully in his mad quest to end all life in the Boiling Isles. After his promotion to head of the Emperor's Coven, the Golden Guard acts as the main enforcer for Emperor Belos and antagonist to the residents of the Owl House. However, a chance encounter with Luz Noceda and the meeting of a mysterious palisman named Flapjack, who chooses Hunter as his partner, gives Hunter a new perspective and a glimpse of life outside of the Emperor's Coven. This soon culminates with Hunter learning the truth of his origins. Upon this discovery, and realizing he can never return to his lifelong home, he abandons Belos and the Emperor's Coven and retreats to Hexside School of Magic and Demonics to evade the emperor's reach. There, he finds acquaintances in Hexside's students, and after coming to terms with his identity, Hunter makes it his goal to help them stand against Belos' plan to wipe out the Demon Realm. Following the events of the Day of Unity and the unleashing of the Collector, Hunter, Luz, Willow, Gus, and Amity are stranded in the Human Realm and spend months working to return to the Demon Realm. Unbeknownst to them, a remnant of Belos follows Hunter to the Human Realm and ends up possessing him, nearly killing his friends and Flapjack in the process. This gives Hunter the strength to finally stand up to his uncle, and he drowns himself in an attempt to defeat him once and for all. However, Hunter is saved when Flapjack sacrifices himself to revive him. Belos, weakened but not dead, returns to the Demon Realm, and Hunter and his friends follow closely behind, vowing to honor his fallen palisman.[9] After the group escape capture by the Collector, Hunter helps evacuate the trapped residents from the Isles' destruction. Hunter, like the many Golden Guards before him, was created with the likeness of Belos' late older brother, Caleb Wittebane, and Inner Belos states he is the closest to his likeness of any grimwalker Belos created.[7][9] He is a humanoid boy sharing the physical characteristics of a witch, such as pointed ears. He has a fair complexion, a slightly hooked nose, dark magenta eyes, thick black eyebrows, a gap between his front teeth, bags under his eyes, and ash-blond hair that is shaved below the top, with a long, jagged forelock. He has a notch on his left ear and scars on his right cheek, upper left arm, two overlapping on his right kneecap (forming an X-shape), and one on his left calf. The sigil of the Emperor's Coven is branded onto his right wrist. He is described as scrawny by Amity in "Eclipse Lake", although he has a larger build compared to characters like Luz, possibly because he is slightly older than them. He is described as looking sickly by Emira in "Labyrinth Runners", though this may have been a result of his living conditions at the time. While staying in the Human Realm, Hunter had his hair and forelock trimmed by Willow, giving him short bangs. When Belos possessed him, parts of Hunter's skin, left ear, and face became basil-green that spread to his arms, turning them into the ones of Belos' corrupted form while also gaining the blue eyes and antler-like horns of the latter. His hair also grew longer, which restored his forelock bang. After being healed from Flapjack's sacrifice, Hunter received tissue scarring in the areas Belos corrupted and his eyes became brown. In "Eclipse Lake", he disguised himself in a standard Coven Scout uniform during his excursion to the Knee. In "Any Sport in a Storm", Hunter disguises himself as a Hexside student, donning a Hexside school uniform consisting of a gray tunic with a dark gray belt, cowl, and boots. His sleeves and leggings of his uniform are colored yellow to suggest he is affiliated with the Potions track. Part of his Golden Guard tunic can be seen hidden underneath his uniform, seen notably at the collar. Hunter also wore red socks with bird-like designs on them. While hiding from the Emperor's Coven in "Labyrinth Runners", Hunter gets rid of his tunic and dons the shirts of his sports uniform again, albeit tattered and dirty, alongside a dark blue cloak with red patches. After joining with the resistance in "Clouds on the Horizon", Hunter wears a pale rose-colored undershirt covered by a collared light brown shirt bearing a cross-stitch in the center, as well as a brown belt bag. He keeps the same gloves, leggings, and boots from his Golden Guard uniform. Over the course of his stay in the Human Realm, Hunter typically wore a variety of short-sleeved button-down shirts, khaki shorts, no show socks and white crocs. By late October, he wears a yellow sweater with a left breast pocket, alternating his pants between blue jeans with a blue patch and red patch on the right and left knees, respectively, or blue pajama pants with a watermelon pattern. He wears either white or purple socks, along with red and white sneakers or his crocs for footwear. During the Haunted Hayride, Hunter dressed as "Chief O'Bailey" from Cosmic Frontier, with the costume consisting of a black and yellow long-sleeved shirt with a planet symbol on it, a utility belt, black pants with cuffs and yellow edges, white socks, black and dark yellow shoes, and a robotic eye attachment. However, after being possessed by Belos and returning to the Demon Realm, he discards the robotic eye and removes the shirt part of his costume, tying it around his waist, revealing a custom-made black wolf t-shirt underneath it. During his time as the Golden Guard, Hunter acted authoritative and confident in the persona, while praising and advocating for the cause of Emperor Belos. He was, however, more laid-back and easygoing than Emperor Belos, being sometimes comedic and snarky in his dialogue. Despite his high-ranking position and upper-class status, he never takes advantage of his power for personal gain, only using his authority when ordered by Emperor Belos himself. He showed deep respect and love towards Belos, yet quite a bit of hubris and egotism towards anyone else, which earned him the dislike of many of his compatriots. Lilith describes Hunter as a brat who is well renowned within the Emperor's Coven and would always receive special treatment for being a "genius teen prodigy",[10] though it's possible that Lilith exaggerated this out of jealousy. He was, however, an opportunist who was willing to use blackmail or extortion to manipulate others, offering to let Eda and Luz go in exchange for slaying the Selkidomus, and then threatening to kill King when they refuse to do so. Whether this is due to pragmatism or simply laziness is hard to say, but having said that, he does give Luz a sword and does indeed let them go after he believes the job is done. Seeing as it was not done (and Eda is well-known as a con artist) might suggest some naivety on his part. Despite trying to be serious in his job, Hunter shows a bit of desire for fun, such as when he starts messing with King while waiting for Eda and Luz to return.[10] Although he tries very hard to please his uncle by doing well at his job, his desire to be competent with tasks also comes from fear, choosing to sulk after he fails to find the Titan blood Belos was requesting. After seeing the portal key around Amity's neck, he attempted to steal it from her and threatened both her and Luz when the two were caught in a deadlock. Despite this, he was genuinely appreciative when Amity complied, showing that it was done out of desperation rather than malice.[11] Regardless of his laid-back persona, Hunter was easily annoyed when things didn't go his way, as seen with his early interactions with Luz. He also seemed to have a fascination with wild magic, and despite his loyalty to Belos and his cause, he still expressed his interest in it towards Luz. In addition, he also possessed a hidden softer side, as he was sickened by the apparent slaying of the Selkidomus,[10] as well as being visibly affected by Luz's words when he tried to double-cross her.[12] His softer side grew more prominent later on after bonding to his first palisman, Flapjack, not only starting sympathize for him,[11] but all the other palismen who had been consumed by Belos.[13] He was very loyal to Belos at first, even worrying about the condition of his "uncle" whenever Belos transformed. He occasionally offered alternatives to help Emperor Belos with wild magic, but also feared his reaction to the mere mention of it. However, his loyalty was not absolute; he continually wondered why Emperor Belos had such a strong hatred for wild magic, but was always discouraged or even threatened by Belos whenever he brought up the thought. In addition, Hunter did not want to hand over Flapjack to Emperor Belos after the bird chose him as a partner.[12] Even though he was committed to Belos and his supposed purpose as the Golden Guard, Hunter appears to be very insecure about himself. Ever since his failed mission to find palismen for Belos, Hunter showed signs of anxiety towards the idea that Belos would replace him and was desperate to get back in his good graces. When he failed to find any more Titan's Blood, Hunter began to suffer a mental breakdown and chose to lie in a grave rather than return empty-handed, showing that deep down, he fears Belos and the idea of what he'd do to him if he were to fail a second time.[11] Due to being sheltered all his life by Emperor Belos, Hunter's social skills were extremely poor when interacting with others outside of the Emperor's Coven, having no comprehension on how to associate with others his own age. This made it difficult for him to socialize with students at Hexside while attempting to gather recruits for the Emperor's Coven, with him being dumbfounded and horrified by both their independent thinking and disinterest in joining the coven's ranks. This social ineptness also gave him a very limited grasp on how to have fun and understanding others' feelings, as he initially associated fun activities with Belos' brutal training methods for coven scouts and was unable to comprehend why others his age would object to joining the Emperor's Coven despite having to be separated from their families and essentially become prisoners.[13] After befriending the Emerald Entrails, however, particularly Willow and Gus, Hunter's character and beliefs gradually began to change. During his membership on the team, his time amongst them allowed him to experience his first genuine instances of having fun and connecting with other witches his age, causing him to better understand and appreciate the notions of friendship and camaraderie. This was emphasized when, after coming to recognize the danger he placed his teammates in by handing them over to the Emperor's Coven, Hunter risked his life to help them escape from Darius' airship, despite doing so technically going against Belos' will and placing his status as Golden Guard in jeopardy.[13] Since then, Hunter's social skills gradually improved, as he slowly became more independent and open towards others, despite remaining loyal to Belos.[14] During his and Luz's time in Belos' mind, however, Hunter's beliefs would be completely shattered after learning the terrible truth of the Golden Guard lineage, Belos' evil nature and goals and that the life he was raised in was all a lie.[7] This sent Hunter into a period of trauma and depression, in which he lost much of his previous confidence and became increasingly paranoid and sullen as he struggled to come to terms with the awful truths he learned. Additionally, Hunter's fear of Belos dramatically increased to the point where he would suffer severe panic attacks at the mere thought of being brought to him after learning the emperor had been looking to capture and terminate him.[8] Additionally, after learning that he is a grimwalker, Hunter became deeply insecure about his true nature and began suffering an existential crisis over his identity and place in the world. This left him questioning whether he was truly a witch or really human, and deeply uncertain of his individuality; whether he was his own person or simply a copy of someone else.[15] Despite this, Hunter's kinder, selfless traits gradually came out more following his ordeal in Belos' mind. After accepting his life was a lie, Hunter promptly abandoned his loyalty to Belos, to the point where he risked being captured to protect his friends at Hexside from being forcibly branded with coven sigils, before officially joining the fight against the emperor and his genocidal plans for the Day of Unity. After joining the resistance, however, Hunter became much more humble, caring, and supportive as he regained his former confidence and determination, though no longer to the point of arrogance. Additionally, as his bond with his friends grew stronger, Hunter became deeply devoted to and protective of them, showing that he maintained his strong sense of loyalty though not in the same blindly devoted manner as his previous allegiance to Belos. Despite this, he remained deeply secretive regarding his insecurities, particularly about being a grimwalker, out of shame and fear that his friends would reject him for being the clone of a former witch hunter.[9] In spite of these lingering emotional insecurities, Hunter's personality tremendously improved during his and his friends' time stranded in the Human Realm, becoming much more cheerful, enthusiastic and somewhat geeky, as he came to enjoy his newfound freedom from Belos' control. Additionally, Hunter also possessed a deep fascination and fondness for many customs and features of the Human Realm, including sewing, wolves and especially the Cosmic Frontier science-fiction series, of which he became a fan of. Sadly, this newfound happiness ended when Flapjack sacrificed himself to heal Hunter after being freed from his possession by Belos, leaving him grief-stricken over the loss of his beloved palisman and first friend. His struggle to process his grief made him increasingly bitter and short tempered, much like how he was as the Golden Guard. This resulted in him becoming distant towards his friends, to the point of furiously snapping at them whenever irritated or reminded of Flapjack. In addition, after returning to the Demon Realm, Hunter completely abandoned his fears of Belos, replacing them with a deep-seated and strong determination to stop Belos.[16] Fortunately, over the course of their return to the Demon Realm, Hunter was slowly able to recover from Flapjack's loss through the support of his friends. A major catalyst of his healing was when they revealed their awareness of him being a grimwalker and voiced their acceptance of him regardless. This not only allowed Hunter to finally make peace with his origins, but also recognize how his anger had distanced himself from his friends, allowing him to finally open himself up to them and make amends.[16] In doing so, he was able to overcome his bitterness and hatred for Belos, coming to prioritize the safety of both his friends and innocent lives more than getting revenge.[17] In the four years after Belos' destruction, Hunter has become increasingly mature, patient and happy, now being able to enjoy the life of a palisman carver, forever freed from Belos' toxic control and influence. Since then, Hunter has shown himself to be much more temperate and open towards others, no longer being afraid of receiving affectionate physical contact and finally entering into a relationship with Willow. In addition, he has also come to terms with and moved on from Flapjack's death, exemplified by how he has affectionately bonded to Waffle as his new palisman, while also continuing to honor Flapjack's memory in reverence for his first true friend.[17] Hunter was created from a line of clones known as grimwalkersโartificial beings who take the mantle of the Golden Guard in order to assist their creator, Emperor Belosโin his plans to enact the Day of Unity. To ensure Hunter did not rebel like the other Guards did, Emperor Belos presented himself as Hunter's uncle, claiming that he took him under his wing after wild magic wiped out their family, and that the Titan had big plans for him.[12][7] Hunter grew up unaware of the fate of his predecessors and his true nature. Despite being raised to believe he was a witch, he was unable to cast magic; the false reason given was he was from a family of powerless witches.[12]Hunter was allegedly trained as a scout for as long as he could remember. Hunter's life was mostly sheltered, as he was made to train and study much of the time and was not allowed to train with the other scouts, although he was permitted to leave the Emperor's Castle during the weekdays for missions.[9] When Hunter came of age, he was promoted to the rank to Golden Guard, inheriting a staff imbued with artificial magic as part of his graduation.[7] Since then, Hunter worked under the emperor as the current Golden Guard, serving as the emperor's right-hand man.[10] Hunter can be seen standing next to Emperor Belos' throne when the latter lectured Lilith.[18] After Lilith defected from the Emperor's Coven, Hunter subsumed leadership of the Emperor's Coven.[10] He was also tasked with keeping an eye on the Owl House and its residents.[19]
